• RIP Robbin Crosby.. You will always be remembered!

(I'm not sure if a post to Robbin has been written. If so, please forgive the repeat and remove or relocate for me).

I can remember Ratt when I was just getting to know the guitar and I loved the group! But it really wasn't until many, many years later, thanks to Curt, that I got to know what made Ratt , rather, who made Ratt.... Robbin Crosby.
Not only did I gain new insight into a great band, I gained even more insight into how that band ticked and who it's soul was.

A great man, and a great sound. A true 'King'.. I will never forget and I know many of us here feel the same...... Here's to you Robbin.. I will be Rockin' Ratt 'N' Roll to you tonight and for as long as I can put finger to fretboard... Listen to it in the Heavens and play one for us.

Way Cool Jr.

I will never forget the Christmas, I was 12, I got "Out Of The Cellar". It also came with a box of BOSS Pedals that My Big ass Family had all chipped in to get me, I ran upstairs and played it for hours. I am a tall guy, and was a tall kid, I was 6'5 in High School, I had started roadiein' when I was 16, about 4 years later, I met alot of Rock Stars, EVH being one of them,he was soo short. Then one day I met Robbin, Super cool guy and was the "Rock Star" I was so used to all my heros being short. Great Songwriter, and let me know that tall guys can look cool playing guitar.

King, Make sure you get some of my mom's meatloaf up there!

Sleep. The sound doesn't collapse to riffs of early eyes either.

Fish, I agree with everything you said and i am a huge fan as well but i think DeMartini had a bit to do with making Ratt who they were as well.
They made a great team !!

RIP Robbin...

Re: RIP Robbin Crosby.. You will always be remembered!

yep. hearing of his passing is still one of the worst phone calls i ever received. i knew he wasn't long for the world, especially with him moving out of hancock park (the convalescent center he was in), but there's never a good time to hear that a friend has passed away.

i had a gig that weekend with my kiss tribute band, and i was going to cancel it and fly out to california to help in some way. i chose to stay home and i played the gig. before we went into shock me, i asked the crowd for a moment of silence for robbin. when it was time for the extended solo part of the song, i played round and round for him, sandwiched in between ace's riffs. yeah, i got a few looks from confused kiss fans who didn't immediately figure out why i wasn't playing the alive II solo note for note, but soon many caught on. after the show, i had more than a few people come up and tell me what fans of ratt they were back in the day and how much they dug him. it made a shitty week worth it.

like many of you, i remember the first time i saw the round and round video, and i remember loving that black roundhorn v he had. when the you think you're tough video came out, i loved it; especially his solo. he was just so bigger than life, you couldn't not be in awe for a minute.

when many people think of the guitar playing in ratt, they naturally think of warren. i was in the minority that preferred the solo in lack of communication, she wants money (what a cool sense of rhythm going on..very bouncy and cool), and the second half of wanted man. i remember reading my gftpm with warren and robbin being featured and really digging a pic that was in there of him live with big red. it was that article that i learned what a king v was, and i thought it was cool as hell.

i was in san antonio this past weekend, and when we parked our car in a pay lot, the attendant saw my robbin memorial window sticker and asked if i knew him. he said that he saw ratt on the out of the cellar tour in corpus christi, and that he was quite a fan of his. i knew that this anniversary was coming, and i took a bit of comfort in knowing that people still remembered him.

more than anything, robbin was a really sweet guy. many times he'd ask how my son was doing, and how my family was. he was a very caring guy, and i miss him a lot. yeah, i know that he got sick because of his own doing, and he never once wanted people's pity, but it was sad in that he still had plans, and things that he wanted to do and accomplish. i'll never forget our many conversations, both good and bad, when he was lucid and when he sounded like larry flint. sometimes you just couldn't shut him up, and he was hilarious, and i think that part of the reason that his phone number is still in my phone because i wish i could still talk to him.

thanks for the chai tea, king. no, i don't have any of your guitars, and i miss you very much. anytime you want to get some sushi, you know where i am.

For anyone who hasn't yet, please read the journal of our own Hellraiser's experience with Robbin. Every time I read it I'm touched and I always have to wipe a little moisture from my eye.

Cool post guys. There must be something in the stars tonight. I came down into the basement tonight to do some cleanup and the first thing I did was flip on Invasion of Your Privacy. So I'm slacking now and decided to check the JCF and see this post. Very cool feeling.
