Re: RIP Robbin Crosby.. You will always be remembe

I actualy got to talk to Robbin on the phone about a year before he died. Strange thing, one of my juvinile inmates was asking me one day if I liked a band called RATT. I told him that I did very much. He went on to tell me that his mom knew one of the guitar players in the band. I asked him which one and he said his name was Robert or something. I said "you mean Robin"! He agreed. Afew3 days later I got called up to the front desk and there was the kid on the phone with his mom. He looked up at me and said "the guy from RATT is getting on the phone, talk to him". I got on the phone and sure enough there was a deep voice on the other end. After talking to him a while it was definately Robin Crosby. He knew too much not to be. That was cool! I as well have been a RATT fan since the Round and Round vid came out. I also had the oportunity to take some one on one lessons with Robbin. He was staying in El Paso TX with a friend of mine about 7 or 8 years ago. He ran an ad in the El Paso Times offering guitar lessons. I should have done it. I only live 80 miles North of El Paso.

Robbin-If it weren't for you RATT wouldn't have had the soul that made them so larger than life. You are a legend and I will look you up in the after life for some guitar lessons that I should have taken when I had the chance.

I read the journal and I was very moved. Truly a sad end to a great rock and roll legend.

I was reading the journal, knowing he had passed away, but rooting for him to come back anyway.

I was also very ashamed for his former bandmates. A little encouragement, some acceptance...and he may have turned the corner.

i know what you're saying, but you also have to consider that while he was in the band, they had to deal with him being a raging addict. they had their own substance problems to deal with, and take the above issues and mix it with a unit that wasn't very cohesive, and you're gonna get failure and burned bridges.

i was very angry after he died for a few reasons. part of my anger was directed at his band mates who abandoned him. i felt alot like what you said in your post, and then i looked at it from the other side. i've known enough addicts in my life to know what pains in the asses they can be. no matter how much you love the person inside, while they're active in their addiction, they're not that person anymore. no acceptance fixes that. not to mention, robbin wasn't a fan of rehabs and programs and stuff like that.

I understand, he did it to himself and that is the end of it. However, it is still moving. To have so much, the money, the fame, the toys, the talent, the model wife....and end up the way he did. It pisses me off that he could ruin such a great life...and saddens me at the same time.

you and me both, sir.... there's nothing like seeing someone you had on your bedroom walls and looked up to lying in a hospital bed with a fatal illness. the first time i saw him at the hospital, i was taken back a bit at how different he looked from when i'd seen him last (1991). he immediately asked me if i had any of his guitars. when i said no, he said "good! i like you, then!" and smiled. that whole time we were visiting with him, he was busting curt's balls mercilessly. it was pretty damn funny.

Sully-Nope. I never met her. A buddy of mine who owned a shop in Almogordo (the bigger town 12 miles south of me) and lives in EL Paso TX knew alot of famous rock stars to include EVH himself. His dad's shop in El Paso used to take care of the PA's at the various collosiums and what not. Robin was a close friend of his and used to stay with him when RATT was in town back in the good old days as well as the post RATT days. I'm still kicking myself in the ass for not taking Robin up on the guitar lessons. That would have been killer. "Where did you learn to play like that Jon"?
"Robin Crosby taught me"! That would have been cool to be able to say that.

Re: RIP Robbin Crosby.. You will always be remembe

I re-read that piece a few days ago and was moved by it. I have always thought it was a great tribute to a true rock star and a man who owned the stage, every night he played.

I was fortunate enough to see Ratt on three occasions in the summer of 1984 and although Warren had the spotlight on him more often, it was clear from all the chicks in the crowd who the star of those shows was. Robbin just oozed larger than life and inspired me in so many ways. He made the "second" guitarist cool.

Thanks to whomever started this thread!

You nailed it Jimmy. He held the pocket with style. With some great solos at times. Certainly a big influence with killer chops and great arrangements. I got to meet Robin in 85 in Buffalo. Very cool back then. It has been a sad loss for the metal community, but hopefully his sickness has brought some awareness to the public. Especially those who were his fans.

Rock on Mr. Crosby.
