Re: Pointy Guitars.....Why Can\'t I Embrace Them???

The only shapes I dont like are the teles, firebirds, and that fugly Phil Collen... all the rest, I love!

Well I mean for Jacksons, there's plenty of other shapes from other manufactures I can't stand. Most are not pointies...

King V is the ultimate body shape. Others are production mistakes that we have to live with.

I personally like all Vs with pointy headstocks and stars. There are also some really cool strats, LPs, Teles and SGs...

I really dislike the Kelly, explorer, tele, les paul and firebird shape..

I love King Vs.. always have.. Rhoads look great too but I prefer the KVs. And strats are great too.. Strats and KVs, the ultimate shapes

I don't know what maken KVs so attractive to me.. chicks dig them haha

Re: Pointy Guitars.....Why Can\'t I Embrace Them???

Well, I almost never stand up and play...as I don't play in a band or anything. So, most pointy shapes would probably be kind of hard for me to use while sitting down, particularly V's and Rhoads shaped guitars. But, with a V you can get access to the entire neck...which does appeal to me. With most strat shaped guitars, I find going beyond the 15th fret or so is a chore in wrist twisting. However, I generally play "blues style", with my thumb hooked over the fretboard, not with it firmly planted on the back of the neck...that hand position makes upper fret use tedious.

That Dime Razorback scares the hell out me. With those protruding spikes, and my pikcing method, I can see my wrist impaled on that guitar!!!

Yeah, they are certainly favored "metal" shapes. But let's not forget that plenty of other style players have been fond of them as well. Clapton played Explorers and Firebirds for years, Hendrix loved his Flying V, as did Billy Gibbons....Albert King played nothing but his Flying V, Johnny Winter is a Firebird guy, etc.

Rock on, pointy fans!!

I love pointy guitars that are comfortable, i love the look of Bc Rich Widows and Beasts, but they are too damn pointy and dig into your legs.

Re: Pointy Guitars.....Why Can\'t I Embrace Them???

I'm a Superstrat/Gibson guy with 3 LP's and 3 SG's (one Fender MIM strat for the once in 8 years dusting off).

I bought a Kelley Performer because someone bolted an ebony/MOP Fusion Professional neck to it (I wanted the neck). I've bought a Basswood Fusion body, but I found the Kelly body style very cool and nice to play, that I'm keeping it as-is. I just bought an RR1 and that will be my next pointy.

Re: Pointy Guitars.....Why Can\'t I Embrace Them???

I use to totally be a Strat shape guy, I never saw the point in pointies. Last year, I picked up one of those RR Legends, because it was cheap and had the classic pinstripes that reminded me of Randy. I bought simply because I thought it would look good hanging on the wall.

Now I have a USA RR, a KE1, and a Roswell to go with it. I really love pointies now, because most of them are actually quite comfortable to play. I do all of my practicing on a RR sitting down, because it promotes proper "classical" technique.

Shape matters not.

Cool Noodles, I'll have to try that out. I'm taking the white RR1 off of Siggy (I think he said you played it). I had a no-name RR back in the 80's but sold it because I couldn't get used to playing with it sliding down. It was still one of my fears of buying an RR.

Cool, that RR plays really sweet, too. I'd have been all over it a month ago when he offered it to me, but I'm not a Floyd guy.

Place it on your right leg, right between the horns. A V-shape is the only shape you can place on your right leg and maintain proper technique.

I started on a str@t, but all I played was pointy guitars from 87-91. When I started up again in 2001, I went back to strat shapes and the Vs hardly see the light of day, let alone any playing time.

I can't get into them either. I love how they look, but
they just ain't me!
If I was just a collector I would definitely grab a couple
for displaying, but I could never play one out, just not my style.
If this is our perdition, will you walk with me?

I hated these pointy guitars in the past.
I used to only play Strat/Dinky.
Now I enjoy all of these such as KV, RR,Star..
They play and feel differently but I enjoy the differences.
