• Pointy Guitars.....Why Can't I Embrace Them???

Well, I don't want to get hurt for starters. But really, I see many guys here that love pointy guitars, V's, Kelly's, Stars, Explorers, Warriors, etc. I just can't seem to find these guitars attractive. I try, because it looks like many of them would be really comfortable to play with the level of fret access that many have...but to me only a Strat shape and maybe a couple other shapes do it. I admit to liking the Gibson Moderne and I can almost get into a roundhorn V, or an original style Rhoads....but most of these suckers look like weapons to me, not guitars.

My son, who is 7, is dying for me to get a pointy guitar..any kind. He just loves them. I think I will get him one of those Baby Epiphone V's just to shut him up!

Sleep. The sound doesn't collapse to riffs of early eyes either.

I fell in love with the kelly shape at first sight...

explorer shapes always appealed to me... and the kelly is like a radical explorer... Honestly I find the strat shape butt ugly from any angle. Love LPs though.

the Kelly shape really is the most comfortable guitar I've played. I realized that after a few months. The strat horn digs into your chest, and gets inbetween the neck and I. The body gets in the way of my picking hand. The kelly leans forward so I can't see the fretboard --- good, because I don't need to see it at all. The side dots are all I need. It's much more comfortable for me to finger this way than the strat shape... ugh I hate the strat shape. It really is meant to be worn really high.

Besides, kellys are just cool, they stand out instead of the usual boring shapes. girls love it. That alone is actually enough for me.

          Re: Pointy Guitars.....Why Can\'t I Embrace Them???

all i played for many, many years were strat bodies. mostly ibanez (yuck) because they were affordable and accessable. i too fell in love with the kelly body style back when i first saw marty friedman playing one. (i just bought a marty ke-1 from a forum member, should have it tomorrow and it will be my first kelly! ) in the past few months i have been in the position to finally buy some top quality axes and they have all been pointy shape jacksons. death angel, wrmg, ke-1. i've owned a washburn dime 333 for a few years now and that guitar kicked it off for me. strat bodies to me are real comfortable while sitting, but impossibly uncomfortable while standing. pointy shape jacksons balance (for me) incredibly well and feel amazing. i don't know how i lived on strat bodies all those years, didn't know what i was missing. and they do feel like weapons in my hands! thats the sweet thing. Some just like the different body styles & some don't!! I usually play a strat body too but sometimes I just wanna play a V,Xplorer,Firebird,etc.....I don't think I'll ever have seven of each but I do like having at least one so when I do get that urge....!!!!!

I like both pointy and strat shapes. I want to get a v or a kelly, but everytime I get up the money for another guitar, I always seem to end up with a strat shape.

I like the strat shapes too. The only pointy shape I like is the V.Not into kellys Rhoads or warriors.

Pointy guitars are just more metal. You will not likely see some country dude playing a blood splatter pointy star any time soon.

In all seriousness, once you have laid in bed, watching TV, holding a nice pointy piece of wood... uh, wait, let me rephrase that. POINTY GUITARS FUCKING ROCK!!! YAH!!

Different strokes for different folks. I prefer Strat shapes but that lower horn gets in the way of some high-register stuff. I do have an old Carvin Ultra V I like - it's the old round horn style with the 3x3 short V headstock like the V220s have. That and a Peavey Vortex 2 Rhoads copy, and a sleazy Meari that's actually a V220 copy, are it for my pointy guitars. I had Newc's Performer/JTX Kelly for a while and it was sweet, but needed money, so it went back to Newc.

I find the strat shape supremely comfortable when sitting and standing nowadays, whereas 10 years ago I couldn't get comfortable with a strat style guitar standing up. I used to wonder how guys like Vai did what they did. Now I do prefer them but I won't be getting rid of my V's anytime soon, I still like to play them, but not as much as the strats. A 24fret star is something I'm going go get to give that shape a try.

The most comfortable pointy and strat shaped guitar is this!
