It's all about shapes for me. Otherwise whats the point?

The very common "TOOTH" shaped guitars, also known as "strat shapes", rarely motivate my playing, there can be exceptions, but my playing improves with the power-feel of the beasts.

Hanging in the balance

For me, I don't really care if it's pointy or not, it is a balance issue. The Vs and Explorers (and the Jackson versions of each, RR, KV, KE, etc.) balance differently and place the neck in a different possition than a strat does standing up. That posisition is much more comfortrable for me, and str@ts are just about unplayable for me with a strap.

Even sitting down, the RRs are more comfortrable for me because they put the neck in the classical position. To do that with a str@t or LP I have to put the guitar on my left leg and angle and hold the guitar at a wierd angle. If I'm going to have to do that, I might as well play a V.

If I could find a way to make a str@t balance like a V, I'd own those too, but I can't, so I don't

Re: Pointy Guitars.....Why Can\'t I Embrace Them???

I can understand that. I too am not much on the pointy guitars. I have a round horn V (polka-dot) and a Firebird. Everything else is strat shapes. I don't have a problem with fret access on strats.

Lately I'm also not getting into sharkfins and pointy headstocks as much either. I have a few strat headstock guitars and really prefer them at the moment.

Re: Pointy Guitars.....Why Can\'t I Embrace Them???

I'm a superstrat guy for the most part but I also dig V's and Explorer's and especially the Jackson versions. That's actually what I like about Jackson, they have a lot of original designs (unlike say ESP) but the designs are tasteful and look cool (unlike BC Rich). WIth that said I still can't get into the Warrior or Star shapes.

for some reason i don't like the stars either, but give me a warrior, ke, kv, or a "death" axe and i'm happy. i'm down to 2 strat bodies and one is definitely for sale, possibly both.

[ QUOTE ]
Well, I almost never stand up and play...as I don't play in a band or anything. So, most pointy shapes would probably be kind of hard for me to use while sitting down, particularly V's and Rhoads shaped guitars.

Try a Warrior. Hands down the easiest to play and best guitar for sitting. The neck just floats at the proper position... no need for support whatsoever.
