What's the deal with signatures?

Did they change or something? Last night I added a new sig and tonight when I went to edit it I get a message saying "Signature too long" and then I noticed the "Signature (up to 100 characters)" text on the edit page. Was this changed recently or is this some kind of bug or something? -Frank

But seriously, it used to be like 255 char limit and now it is 100 char. Can we change it back to 255?

I went to change my avatar on Friday, when I put the new link in it told me my signature was to long [img]/images/graemlins/scratchhead.gif[/img]

I deleted half of my signature, added my new avatar link...it told me my signature was to long [img]/images/graemlins/scratchhead.gif[/img]

I still have the same signature...and the same avatar

I encountered the same situation regarding my current signature every time I went to change my avatar or any of the information in the Personal information, email, password, etc. page.

My example involves my signature text color, red. I type [color:red] into the Signature field and hit SUBMIT. Then I try to look in the personal information page again and for the Signature field, and it says [color:"red"] (notice the added quotation marks)!!!!!!!!!!!

The quotation marks add two extra characters that I end up having to delete every time I edit my profile (as you know, I bring up a new Eddie avatar quite often) and hit SUBMIT. My signature is EXACTLY 100 characters and the two quotation marks put me over the top at 102.

The thing is, I just changed it like 2 days ago with no problem so the character limit must have been added in the last couple of days. It's not that big of a deal, just kind of annoying and in the grand scheme of things, I don't see what you really gain by changing a text field from 255 to 100. I am a software/web developer and deal with this stuff all of the time and believe me, the difference it makes is so miniscule it is not even worth the time it takes to talk about it. Wish someone would change it back. Pretty please with a cherry on top... [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

Yeah, I had to rephrase the wisdom of the Motor City Madman to make it fit into my sig, and that's just wrong.

And I couldn't even FIND a DLR quote that would fit! I almost had to resort to a Ziggy! [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

Maybe there was a ripple in the space-time continuim or something because I DEFINITELY changed my sig line a couple of days ago and the same sig line now gives me the "too long" message. If somebody has access to the server logs they could probably parse out my changes and verify what I am saying. Anyway, no biggie, I will shut up now and live with it like everybody else.
