• NAMM show highlights and headscratchers

<ul type="square">[*]Without a doubt, the two coolest looking guitars at the show were the Mike Learn King V and the Dan Lawrence Soloist. Those guys rule.

I was very bummed that Mike's Celtic Tele didn't make it - apparently someone buffed through the clear on the headstock. Too bad, that guitar looked amazing in the photos.
[*]The Gretsch part of the FMIC display had some very sweet Gretsch amps. Very nice warm clean tones.
[*]The Floyd Rose V's were stellar. They looked awesome, played incredible, and sounded great. I *really* want one of these:

[*]Crate Powerblock - this $199 amp is kickass! Very impressive tones from a simple solid state amp. This is a great practice and backup amp.

[*]Presonus Firepod - very nifty firewire recording unit - I am looking into one of these: http://www.presonus.com/firepod.html
[*]Moogerfooger Analog Delay - wonderful warm analog delay - pretty spendy though.

    More to come...

    Nice shots Tim !

I gotta say - the hole in the headstock Floyd Rose V's look sick I think thats where this guitar is going to take off - the Strathead thin just wasn't happening....you can get those guitars right now for below cost...

      Ok, here are some headscratchers.
<ul type="square">[*]Holy crap, what is this guy thinking? When Eric and I were coming around to snap these pictures the dude was having technical problems of some sort. So he starts giving us shit saying "hey I don't come around your office and take pictures of you fixing copiers". I'm sure you are thinking the same thing we were - something like "dude, you better hope you can fix copiers because you ain't making a living selling those pieces of crap". What a waste of EMG pickups. This thing was just stoooopid. Definitely gets the award for worst of show. He had it plugged into a modeling gizmo with a ton of distortion and more flanging than a toilet seat.

[*]Staxx guitar - uh, yeah, whatever. Eric and I stopped to take a picture so we could goof on it here. So the dude hands me one of these things. It was awful. When you play the top neck your arm hits against the bottom one at an awkward point. Very uncomfortable. Plus it's just downright fugly.

[*]Who thought that these were a good idea? A blowup doll with strings would at least be funny. But this? Dar.

[*]The Jackson reverse Kelly. Sorry guys, this is just a bad idea. End of story.

I gotta agree on all points Tim. You are spot on in your observations. I played that yellow Floyd Rose V and I loved it. I just wish he made them with a regular Floyd and machine heads.

The Crate Power Block is a very cool little amp for the money and I will be picking up one soon. Great for practice and as a cheap backup.

Re: the Kelly. Put a LH Floyd on it, swing her around, and some lefty will be happy, though. Even the logo and sharkies will be correct! He'll be stuck with weird knob placement, though.

Also, I got a chance to play RKS guitars (not that it's a good thing). I posted the review in the existing RKS thread:

Yeah, gotta agree on the reverse Kelly. I just don't see the point, other than gimmick. Seems like there could've been a lot of other things built instead. Why not a Demon, Death Kelly, Kelly Star, or Death Angel!?
