  • Builders of jackson necks? Anyone know of someone?

I have a DXMGT body I want to get a neck for. I know I can snag one off ebay but this is a hard tail and I don't need the floyd nut. Also, I wanted to have one made to custom specs anyway. Warmoth doesn't offer jackson necks yet and their existing necks won't intonate. I'm looking for 24 fret anyway.

Ed Roman makes them but I'll never buy anything from him based on his reputation alone.

I emailed Gajic guitars but he's in the UK and after import/shipping costs it's way too much money.

Monster Guitar Shop makes firewood and it takes forever for him to finish the firewood to send to you, so that's out too.

Is there anyone else? Private builders even?

I'd contact Lee from GMW Guitarworks and see if he can help you out. Even if he can't chances are he can tell you who could. He's a heck of a guy.

Warmoth does make 24 fret necks and they do make jackson pegheads but as you said they won't work because they don't correctly mate with jackson bodies (not sure the specifics of why).

Warmoth makes (at least right now) essentially a 21-fret neck, which you can buy with a 24-fret extension. This isn't the same as a true 24-fret neck, since for the same scale length, a body that receives a 21-fretter will be shaped differently than a body for a 24-fretter (i.e. for the latter the neck pocket is shifted closer to the bridge).

Also, there may be a heel width issue, but I'm not up to speed on the numbers (not that it matters much if the necks are the wrong length).

All Warmoth necks are cut to fit on a Fender body.
That's why the heel will not mate properly on a Jackson.
They make some nice stuff, but nothing I can use.
Mighty Mite makes Jackson neck knock-offs, but I've never used them. I haven't heard anything good or bad about them either.

yeah the problem with warmoth is the heel width is wrong and they won't intonate.

I checked out the mighty mite site. This is a fairly inexpensive project so I'd use one of them too but I didn't see them on their site at all.

There's a post in this section about Warmoth looking for info on making Jackson-spec necks. Hopefully that'll get off the ground soon.

Hey Xeromus. Does your name have anything to do with the large, final boss of US Final Fantasy II?

Yes! With the obvious first letter change. Most people don't pick up on that. I'm also a huge old school video game fan as well as guitars.

I friggin' loved Final Fantasy II (Final Fantasy IV in Japan I think). I still have my original copy from when I was 10 years old. Kill Zeromus easily with Edge throwing a few of Cecil's Excalibur copies... You'll be done the fight within a few minutes. Yeah I emailed him and he does great work and was my first choice but the price he quoted (won't list here out of respect for the guy) was way more than I'd be willing or able to pay for a maple unfinished neck. And it's mainly just because it'd have to go from the UK to me in the states.

check out mighy mite, my warmoth has a mighty mite neck and its pretty good. I mean your not gonna get custom tonewoods or any of that stuff but you can get a nice birdseye/birdseye. Or the traditional combinations.
