• Single volume and no tone, or should I drill?

The red doesn't look as bad in real life. I had to use a flash and the metal flakes had an impact...

Should I add a tone control? Newc says an EMG81 with the tone turned down sounds like Maiden leads, but the EMG-SA is doind a good job. I have her wired for 18 volts and it sounds pretty awesome. The body is from a Charvel Fusion Deluxe, and the neck is a Jackson Fusion Professional. It just shreds like crazy - excellent neck!

    Could be better?

So, do I drill and add a tone, or leave it as is?

Buy a concentric volume/tone pot to save yourself some woodworking trouble. I was almost going to do this with my EMG-85/EMG-89 equipped KE3 but it already sounded like Maiden leads anyway.

Ahh - the 85/89 combo. The 81 does a very nice job as well, just a little too much bite. In the middle position with the EMG-SA, it's perfect for the Trooper leads.

Isn't Maiden the best fuckin band of all time? My first album I every purchased was Number of the Beast. They will be in Columbus next Tuesday for Ozzfest - I'm torn between ditching work or not. Took the kids to see them in 2003.

It looks just fine as it is, and I bet it sounds great too. Tone control? You don't need no stinking tone control!

Don't get me started on Maiden... I would not stop talking. I'm borderline obsessed, I swear. I am pissed that I won't get to see them on this "Early Days" tour they're on this year, and have to wait for next year when they'll probably be supporting their next album. You know Adrian's fat palm muting intro riff to "22 Acacia Avenue"? My EMG-85 gave me that really fat warm chug with thick crushing lower-midrange. My JB-equipped Les Paul Custom gets close to that too, but that KE3 I had was an absolute tone monster.

Oh ya. That's tha place where we all go-oo.

Well, guess what? I have a KE3 (to be a project) and I think I'll pick up some EMG's for it. I tell you, the EMG81 in this light basswood body (that kills the highs, but the ebony fretboard brings them back) sounds pretty killer as well. I know they used Super D's (and I have a pair) but the EMG sounds soo good.

I have a DK-1 neck for the KE3 - so pictue a black KE3 with black hardware and a ebony and MOP neck.

Not sure the KE3's neck pocket accepts anything but a KE3 neck. I've read some things floating around the JCF about how they're incompatible, which is REALLY odd. HOWEVER, Budman68 managed to mate an import Kelly body to a DK2 neck and it looks AMAZING. Not sure why the KE3s don't come with binding but it looks better with it!

Okay, who says that originally? Now I'm curious. Same goes for "Anyone? Bueller?" and "Rrrrrmmmmmmmm... get out of my chair!" and "Whatchoo talkin' 'bout, Willis?"

                  Help!

Just measured - no issues - both necks have the same width and neck cut. I had a Fusion neck on a PS6T Kelly which was fine - except they packed is badly in shipping and lost a chunk of the body. Hence, the new KE3. Only issue is I think I need larger neck bolts for the DK-1 neck. Might as well find a new neck plate to go with it as well.

KE3s don't have neck plates, proving that mojo is not isolated to neck plates.

Hmmm - then what do I have:

                        http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWN%3AIT&rd=1

I always assumed unbound rosewood with sharkies = KE3, but there is a neck plate - s/n 9664244. Duncan Designed pickups, I'm guessing the HB103N and HB103B, but I haven't pulled them out yet. They sound enough like early Lynch to make me think they are like a Duncan Distortion.

Okay, yours does. Others I have seen, including my old one, don't. Instead, the serial number is on the back of the headstock.

                          Jackson guitars are friggin' weird.

If that is anything like mine, it's an HB102 set (JB/Jazz). I thought they were HB103 Distortions as well until I got the EMGs installed and was able to look under the Duncan Designeds.
