• Question to you Vintage Charvel/Jackson owners

I was thinking about creating a Charvel data base with the early Charvels. Like you put in a number and search for it.
I realize that now that some people would be sensative to this information, but maybe I could just get a. database with or w/o the numbers. This would be pre 1986.

What do you guys think? Of couse there would be pictures and everything also.

It probably won't be so graphically nice (for lesser bandwidth)

This could also be applied to early Jacksons as well..

Re: Question to you Vintage Charvel/Jackson owners

Lemme 'splain: Many of these guitars are in private collections...very private. The owners would not work with you to make info public.
Furthermore, there are many loose plates and such running around that could be used to build fakes. This is the reason the log book was never made public. It is in private hands and should stay that way.

So, you would wind up with copying info from Bret's site, Tracy's site, Chucksplatter's site, along with a few strays...and that's it for your database. It would be very incomplete at best.

Re: Question to you Vintage Charvel/Jackson owners

See this is something I don't get: Why does everyone who naysays this idea think such a database would include names/contact info of the owners?
You build a list of guitars based on serial number and specs, and whether it is original or not, that's it. No names. Full serials, not "3xxx", and pics. Obviously Tracy's old pics are easily identifiable by the infamous Green Couch, so the owners would have to make an effort to hang a sheet on the wall to photograph their guitars against to protect their identities.

Loose plates would also have to be documented so they don't turn up on a fake. Personally I'd be suspicious of anyone who owned a loose plate and didn't admit that it was a loose plate, even anonymously.

This sort of thing benefits the collectors because they know which ones are accounted for and which ones are not, and those who wish to get into the "game" also know which ones are real and worth the money, and which ones are fakes built around a plate and a log book description.
I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

Re: Question to you Vintage Charvel/Jackson owners

Newc, quit assuming. I didn't, for a second, think the owners names would be included.

How do you know what I am thinking as I "Naysay" this idea?

It won't work because a lot of these guitars are owned by people who wish to keep them private. I don't know why. Neither do you. That's what they wish, and that's that.

Therefore it would be very incomplete.

Besides, whats the point? There are many sites one can go to and loo at many pics with full info.

Then perhaps one of these individuals would care to shed some light on this particular matter? I can understand the anonymity factor - you don't want every Tom Dick and Harry pestering you about selling a guitar, for one - but where's the harm in acknowledging that a given guitar is accounted for (i.e. currently in posession of a collector or otherwise as opposed to set ablaze and thrown in a dumpster in Muskogee back in the day)?

This would not include owners, it would just be a guitar info, serial number, and features.

Guys I'm not a collector, but do own a very small piece of Charvel history, my 83'Black Explorer. It is all original, no refinish or made from San Dimas parts. I'm the guy who ordered it, and still have the sales recipt.

I really like seeing and hearing about all you guys guitars. I don't know if a data base is the way to go, but this place is really cool. I learn a lot about the guitars and the history of Charvel from this sites members. I think a place like this is the way to go

Yea it is, but people delete their pictures and then I can't see them anymore, I would be cool just to check out Charvel Guitars.
