Re: personal J/C preferences
Whats interesting about my custom shop order is that in pretty much every way it doesn't match up with the body style. If you looked at the specs without knowing the body style you would probably automatically guess its a Soloist or a Charvel strat. Which is just my love for both the modern and the vintage shining through. String thru, archtop, quilt top, natural binding, matching headstock gold hardware. All those things are more classy and traditional and not exactly what you think of when the name Death Angel pops up in conversation. With a custom shop order you know the guitar is going to play like a dream so really custom shop orders are direct representations of your taste in guitars. Thats why I always wanted one to call my own.
Someone on chat gave me an endless amount of shit for wanting a bolt on death angel. But for me, I've always preferred bolt ons, well I have no problems with neck thrus (I love my Mockingbird Neck Thru and play it regularly) but I don't think the extra price is justified. If you look at Charvel guitars thats all the answer you need about how great a bolt on can be. As for Rob driving to my house and kicking my ass for defiling his design with a bolt on you never know, he may be a fan of the vintage himself
I do find one constant in shapes I like. I love archtops. Generally anything archtop will get me looking. And some really slick graphics will make me love a body I didn't before. Such as that killer Graveyard V that Paul has or the new VWall limited KV run with the grey bevels. But I'll take pretty much any guitar in an archtop. I love the sound of them and I love the look.
