Re: Playability of an SL2H vs. a Les Paul

Hmmm...looking more closely at Ryan's question, he specifically asked how the SL2H compares to the Peavey Wolfie. I'm curious as well. Any wolfie owners here who can enlighten us?

I used to own a PV Wolfgang, nice guitar, but not in the same league quality/craftsmanship wise as a USA Jackson IMHO. The main turn offs about the Wolf were the trem's quality, smaller fret size, narrow neck radius, and no pup rings so you can not adjust the pup height. I much prefer my DK-1 in the bolt-on category, or even a SL2H overall. I acutally think the old PV USA Specials are a better buy (same axe, but in only in solid colors & no arch top).

I've been a hardcore Jackson enthusiast for a long time. I've owned 2 Soloists, 2 KV2's, and a RR1. A while back I borrowed a LP Studio from a buddy for about 2 weeks. I ended up selling my KV2 and buying an LP Standard. After having that for a few weeks I just put my RR1 up for sale and bought another Standard. I prefer the LP's.

Thanks for all the feedback. I have 3 guitars - one LP Custom silverburst (real cool), one LP Classic cinnamon burst, and the tobacco burst Peavey Wolfgang. I'm thinking about selling the LP Classic and Peavey and buying an SL2H.

i would think you could sell of the LP alone and score a soloist.

I never cared for the LP,

My custom shop Jackson is a LP styled bodied but it has the speed neck and the things on it that I think make it superior to Gibbys. Cant wait for it to get here. 1238538459374 months from now

.... As far as sheer playability, to me, and comparing my Les Paul Custom to the old Shannon Soloist I used to have, the Les Paul is a much better playing guitar action wise and string tension wise.

I've never played a guitar that is as easy to play as my Les Paul, bar none. My 85' SD Charvel comes in a very close 2nd for playability, followed closely by a Jackson Dinky Custom and my Steinberger GM4T.

Tis true, tis true! I'm tellin ya folks, you wouldn't believe how low the action is on Sam's Gibby. Like I've said previously, you couldn't fit a flea's pecker between the high E and the 12th fret. It plays effortlessly. That guitar has some serious mojo.

Re: Playability of an SL2H vs. a Les Paul

I'm a huge Jackson fan, but LP's are my favorite. I had the SL2H and it was great, but like most Jacksons, the neck is on the thinner side. I like the chunkier necks on the LP's, especially my Studio, which feels like a baseball bat. Playability-wise, I didn't notice much of a differece, the action is about the same on all my guitars. The SL2H is certainly much lighter, but I like the heft and tone of my LP's better.

Like someone mentioned, your comparing 2 totally different guitars. One thing I have noticed is when you play a higher end USA Jackson over a lower end import, not only do you see the quality with better hardware/woods/binding,etc. , you also feel the quality in your hands, it seems that more care and attention to detail was taken. A USA Jackson to a real Gibson Les Paul, depending on the LP as there have been known to be a few dogs out there lately, the difference isn't much more pronounced.

Either way, play what you like, like what you play, I suck at whatever guitar or bass I'm jamming on anyway, but I can talk guitars and go window shopping all day

OK, when you actually OWN a Les Paul and a SL2H and compare them, then give me/us your opinion.

Anything "owning" a Les Paul is kinda a broad statement.

Is the Les Paul a/the be all end all guitar, no..by no means.....but, at the same time, a Les Paul ripping through a Marshall is a classic!!
