Definitely a much needed sticky. Thanx Rob for taking the time. Now, if NOTP would get that much needed pic taking tutorial done, we'd be all set.

Somehow I knew you'd bring that up. Most of the hints and tips that I'm compiling into one place are just an amalgamation of stuff I've posted before across a few different topics, but is still much needed.

Great job by the way RobRR. What are your opinions on the Cold Heat soldering iron? You know, the one that gets advertised on TV sometimes. For the amount of time I need to spend soldering (which is almost NEVER, maybe a rare pickup swap once in a while), would this be worthwhile? Some have said that it's a piece of junk while others say it's a technological marvel.

Been wondering about this myself as I too don't do a tremendous amount of soldering.

                    Re: DIY Soldering

well basically it needs to make a circuit to create the heat, the tip has a little V notch in it and when you touch the solder or the wire between it, it creates the circuit.. you need to get good at hitting it just right .. it has its place I guess but sitting at a table where a plug is right near you...buy the electric one ..
