• Friend's guitar?

I'm trying to identify what type Charvel he has. I own a Mod 6 and its similiar, but has some differences. Here's what mine has then his;

Mine (Mod 6)
- blue
- neckthru
- Floyd Rose
- sharkfin on fretboard

His
- blue but a slightly darker blue
- neckthru also
- Kahler
- dots instead of sharkfins
- his headstock is the same, but the guitar overall is slightly longer. (won't fit into my chainsaw case).
- has the same pickup config along with same switches as the Mod 6. (face looks exactly like a Mod 6 with the exception of the Kahler).

What is it?

From what you have described, your friends guitar is a 1986 Model 6. The first ones came with the Kahler and dot fret markers.

[/ QUOTE ] Wouldn't the friend's be a model 5?

I do own an 86 mod 6 also, but it too has sharkfin inlays along with the Kahler. Did the Mod 6 have dots for inlays also?

Re: Friend\'s guitar?

If it has dots and no binding, it's a model 5. If it has dots AND binding, I am stumped.

Don't know about the binding, but I'll look at it again tonight.

[/ QUOTE ] I have been informed that it may be a model 6 with dots. I have never seen one. Can ya snap a couple pics and post them for us?

It's not a 5. The 5 has H-H, not S-S-H. I know the early model 4s had kahlers and dots but I've never heard of the 6 having dots. This is interesting - and perplexing.

Ok, I screwed it all up. The guitar is not a neckthru. It doesn't have dots, but little rectangles? No binding.
