Have set/ bolt on and neckthru like all three. I go back and forth but I really like the combo of the neckthru/oiled neck right now. For years I loved painted necks though so go figure. I think that the right setup is really a amp/pickup combo that makes it really work for me though. If it sounds good it feels good. My ears do the deciding.

Yes I was once a Neck-Thru snob... Now I'm a bolt supporter.... My opinion may change again someday but that more sustain BS don't fly with me.

Used to prefer neck through guitars, but recently started digging the bolt ons. Strictly a feel thing for me.

No, no, no! You guys have it all wrong with the chrome vs. black Floyd comparison. It's basic science. Lighter colors reflect light, right? Conversely, darker colors absorb light, correct? Therefore, a black Floyd will absorb tone and sustain and prevent them from escaping, however, a chrome Floyd will force your tone and sustain outward thereby increasing overall resonance. Mmmmmmmkay? As far as a gold Floyd, the tests were inconclusive.

Now, where'd I put that pipe? I've still got half a rock to finish.

And if you think EVH picked up your guitar through your amp and your settings and his tone would be indenticle to yours then your the one supplying the crack pipe ..

I don't and never said I did either like I said the way you play is part of your tone but not all of it, he would sound different than he sounds playing his EVH guitars.

I dunno why we are arguing about this anyways, we are saying the same thing. Neck thru, bolt on. Not much difference!

                        I'll play.

Neck thru or set neck without question. Feels more solid. Bolt ons feel like toys.

Actually I think youre pretty close there. A harder surface relfects high frequncies better, therefore the black paint would be a touch softer than the chrome (?), hence, a brighter sound off the chrome right? Gold is a soft meterial so I guess it would also be a bit duller.. ah fugg it, I'm goin to the pub. Hmm, lager or ale?..

Wow, maybe its the lack of morning coffee but that makes sense mhalsey. In a crack pipe kinda way but since we are all smoking the crack pipe anyways, I guess its true then.

+1! For me, it all has to do with upper-fret access as I have short fingers. So I will say neck-thru!

                                [/ QUOTE ]
I'd agree too but its not as much of an issue as you think with a custom shop (which is where price becomes more of an issue). Contour heel and horn will pretty much give you the same fret access, if its anything like a warmoth with a contour. I have short fingers too, so this was a concern for me and originally I was gonna get a neck thru custom, but after playing one of my friends warmoths with the contour, I realized it was just wasted money to get a neck thru.

Oh shit, here we go again, from arguing to beer. If we do a JCF autobiography thats what we should call it. "From Argument, to Beer: A Look Inside the JCF".
