Re: <<<<<SL1 - SL2>>>>>>

The SL1 has HSS pickup configuration.
I'll assume you're referring to the SL2H, which is the only other one currently in production. The SL2H has two humbuckers. Other than that, no differences.

The SL2, an older model, also had two humbuckers, and an ebony fingerboard with no inlays.

I had in mind that there would be bolt on/neck thru, ebony/ fingerboard differences

Not true Norton.

An SL2 has black binding around the fingerboard. There are also some SL2's with inlays (other designation). SL2's also had cheaper hardware, to make it the 'in-between/bridge-the-gap' model. It was still a USA made guitar, though and it played and LOOKED wonderful.

All SL models (Soloists) are neck-thru. Bolt-ons are Dinkies.

I had an sl-2 with the black binding and it had cheap hardware. The floyd on it was total junk.

I think my mistake was the black binding part.I didn't see the binding because it was black.

The hardware on an SL2 is better than current imports.

The SL2 has the Takeuchi trem (better than the newer JT590LPs) and the Kent Armstrong pickups, which I think are nicer than most of the current SD pickups included with Jacksons.

I had an SL2 and it lacked some of the definition and sustain that my friends Jacksons had because he had all Floyd Rose parts on his.

I was not that impressed by the Kent Armstrong pups. I put in a SD Custom 5 but eventually sold it.

If I got one I would put all top of the line hardware on it or get a custom shop.

No, the SL2 had the JT580 unlike 'the newer JT590's'.

I had an SL2, the floyd was garbage and I wasnt fond of the pups either. I put a JB in the bridge and it sounded fantastic.

Wish I never got rid of that thing.

shouldn't the SL-2 have a JB in the bridge already?
