Re: Who is permitted to have their gear in plain v

The trick to keeping the wife happy is to make sure that the gear blends into the rest of the room in a seamless, holistic manner so that it's not noticeable. You'd never know by studying these pictures that I'm a guitar player.

          The dining room is mine:

The pics are a bit old. The Sunburst Charvel has been replaced with a Rhoads and my two Strats are missing (the neckl of one is behind the 5-stand)

I'm using two Monitors now too...

I keep a guitar on a stand beside the bed, the rest in cases. I have a 4-year-old daughter that likes to strum it in the stand (future rocker ). I also have a half-stack in the bedroom that I’m constantly hearing about.

I just got the go-ahead to keep a half stack in the (fairly small) studio my girlfriend and I have been living in

Re: Who is permitted to have their gear in plain v

I gotta an amp in almost every room. I keep my guitars centralized in my bedroom, but sometimes leave them out if I'm working on something. It also helps that my wife owns her house and I own mine. She stays in hers, and I stay in mine. On the weekends we get together at either her house or mine, and sometimes during the week we'll stay together at one of the houses together. Great for a relationship. We're best of buddies, but if I'm feeling like I want to be alone..........I just go home.

Other than that, I like decorating my house with nautical sh*t and musical instruments.

Re: Who is permitted to have their gear in plain v

In my living room I have a Yamaha digital piano, a Motif 6, a 6 guitar rack stand filled, another single guitar stand with my Chapman Stick, a Carvin X100B half stack, an old Acoustic G100-112 amp, and a Peavey Stereo Chorus 120 (for the Motif). I also have 2 chairs and a leather couch.
3 of the guitars (an old Ibanez Proline, and RG-550, and a Chinese Les Paul) that are always out are for anyone, kids included, to play or make noise on whenever the mood stikes. Same with the piano and synth.
My wife and I have 4 kids, and musicianship is a fact of life to them, just like riding a bike. It's really the way I always hoped I'd be able to raise my kids, and makes me pretty happy. Oh, and there's a Yamaha flute in there somewhere as well.

HERS: this is Tom's girlfriend. Please come over and take your pick of Tom's 80+ guitars. We have 2 of our 3 bedrooms FILLED with his guitars. Heck, I'll even buy your gas and help load your car! Please come and take what you want...donations accepted. Then our house will finally be clean, and I will be thrilled. Then Tom will STILL have 20 guitars (he stores the overflow at his friend's house).

...tis true, my initial collection & investment of 20-30 needs to be weeded down a little. I'm working on it dear, just not very diligently.

Guess you now know where that topic stands, do they have a 12 step program for hoarders?

Hmm...I've got family in Minneapolis. I could pay them a visit after picking out a guitar. What's my limit?

zero. She doesn't own them so she can't give em away.

I just finished my basement off and that is now my home studio where all my gear sits. I do keep a little Marshall MG15cdr (or some modeler) and one guitar in my living room for spontaneous jams. My coffee table also doubles for a guitar workstation.

i made a studio out of our three car garage. i used a litlemore than one third of it, and she keot the convertible sl-500 mercedes and the top of the line washer and dryer in the rest of the garage. ll the stuff from tiffany's was keot inside. i wasn't even in the house with the guitars and i got shit for it. you don't understand how much my wife hates me. i loved that studioin the garage, sound proff, complete with drums and everything.if you stood in the backyard and we were playing loud at 3 a.m., all you could hear was the waves crashing in the distance, not a drop of music.we built walls inside the walls of the garage for extra sealing. worked like a charm. we just couldn't get the sealer to hold on her mouth.
