Re: why isn\'t FR pro popular?

It may just be me, but I hated the angled saddles on the JT580POS. The OFR and the Schaller have straight saddles, which IMO makes it easier to apply a touch of subtle palm muting. Not as easy as on a TOM bridge for sure, but way better than with saddles that are angled towards the neck...

even with its lower profile, it still seems "bulky" to me. but i do like the concept of some of these newer lo pro FR clones with the string through the tube thing where you don't have to cut off the ball end. thats pretty cool. but i haven't compared them functionally with an OFR.

Re: why isn\'t FR pro popular?

I had one retrofitted onto a black SL1 a few years back. If I recall correctly, the radius is different on the Pro as well as the string spacing. After my tech did the work, the guitar played ok, but wasnt the same as with the OFR. For people like me though, theres a nice benefit of not having the fine tuners sticking out so high. However, after changing my technique a little, the point is fairly moot. My Floyd Pro was gold, and was a high quality unit, nothing wrong with the feel, but I think the guitar has to be built around it (mine reuired some shimming, minor routing, etc, and didnt play too hot in the end.

I've got a gold FR Pro and unless the guitar is made for that design in the form of a deep recess, the saddle arms will hit the body or the recess.

No, it's not the same as the JT580LP... it's a better quality metal. And the Low Profile just means it's got the shorter locking pins that stick out of the top of the saddle instead of the longer pins that go underneath the saddle and stick out the back.

Yeah, good thing I said "pretty much the same" and not exactly the same, huh?
