    Re: Who else prefers Floyds??

I love the Schaller Floyd.. (FRII)

I agree, I don't use it much, but it's nice to have when you do. The main issue is tuning stability. No bridge holds like a Floyd.

Floyds rule, I grew up on them. All but one of my 15 guitars have one. After you learn the in's and out's of dealing with them, it becomes tough to do tech work on guitars without them.

I can go without one, but I can't imagine not having one at all (got to have at least one FR equipped guitar in your arsenal)....

They're great for subtle vibrato on chords, as well as, of course, the dive bombs, warbles, etc.

Floyds are key!! i don't care about the restringing thing, being able to pull up on the whammy bar is super fun.

I love OFR's recessed or non-recessed. I played for 39 years with various hardtails, vintage trems, Kahler's and Kahler Floyd types, and didn't know what I was missing. OFR's are what I play all the time now.

                  Re: Who else prefers Floyds??

To me a guitar without a Floyd is not quite an instrument yet... it just like a major part of your body is missing - you still can walk, but not quite the same.

I do enjoy a couple of quitars I have without floyds, and these are good to put down a rithm track. But for any kind of a solo work - floyd is essential imho. When I'm buying a quitar - if it does not have a floyd I'm most likely to pass, unless it is really something special.

never liked fixed bridges. they make the guitar look cheap imo. i use the trem bar too much.

Floyd fan here for 20+ years. Even though I rarely hit the bar, I love the tuning stability, especially since I block them to dive only.

I prefer fixed, but the Fender style over the TOM. I have a floyd equiped guitar for those things you just have to have a floyd for but my main players have always had fixed bridges of some sort. I do a lot of string bending and the give in the floyds, or any non-fixed for that matter, always bugged me. I've never tried a tremsetter or similar device though. I always wanted to but never got around to it.

TOM/Vintage Trem, Floyds are annoying to use for me.

                              Who else prefers Floyds??

I tried a black hamer guitar with a floyd back in the mid 80's. I really didn't care for how it felt on that particular guitar. The technician swore up and down it was the up and coming thing and that I should try another guitar(I was searching for tremelo's at the time) with one. Sure enough, they had a Jackson soloist and I was hooked!

I have to admit, when I had my charvel done, I hated the first time I had to re-string it. The bridge was insane to work with! But I wouldn't have it any other way now.

I used to have an Ontario Jackson strat(H-H-kahler) I even posted here about floyding it and the majority of you said to leave it original. I sold it back to the friend I bought it from. Played it yesterday...felt and sounded good but I can only wonder what it'd sound like with a Floyd on there.

                                Re: Who else prefers Floyds??

All of my guitars have floyds. I use it a lot, not just for dive bombing or pulling pich harmonics either, but for lots of subtle vibrato things like to do.
If a guitar doesn't have a floyd on it to me it looks naked, Plus I rest the edge of the heel of my hand on it (anchor it) there so when I play a V-trem or a TOM I have to do some re adjsuting with my right hand.
If this is our perdition, will you walk with me?
