Re: Who else prefers Floyds??

Well i used to hate them when i got my 1st jackson way back in the late 80's but i wouldnt have a guitar without one! Infact ive just sent my beloved KE3 body to the repair man to get the route filled & shaved to match a OFR so theres no horrible gaps or the pins catching on the rear of the route cant wait to see it finished.

This is what I mean - a guitar like this just looks really odd without a Floyd, a major part of the body is lacking. IMHO of course.

I prefer a floyd as well. I do own 2 TOM guitars though that I use for lower tunings.
This thread brought me back to the first time I changed the strings on my first guitar with a Floyd... figuring out why the bridge wasn't sitting in the same spot as before

The only problem I've ever had with a floyd is when I break them :P I've worn out the saddles numorous times, but I couldn't go to not using one. I'm thinking of getting a trem setter which should make them even better then before.

Re: Who else prefers Floyds??

I grew up playing a floyd copy, so for me right hand it feels very natural to play it but I never used the bar before.
Now on my SL2H I've been spending more time trying out different things with the bar and I now officially LOVE IT!!!

once you get used to it, there's no turning back...think of all the cool flash shit you can pull (no pun intended)

I have 2 OFR's one JT-500 (Schaller Copy) and two Ibanez Edges. I think they rule...

I also like the Kahler Flatmounts...

All of my guitars have floyds. I use it a lot, not just for dive bombing or pulling pich harmonics either, but for lots of subtle vibrato things like to do.
If a guitar doesn't have a floyd on it to me it looks naked, Plus I rest the edge of the heel of my hand on it (anchor it) there so when I play a V-trem or a TOM I have to do some re adjsuting with my right hand.

'Bout sums it up for me. I do not even screw in the bar (and never have), but it is a part of the way that I play nonetheless.

I own a cpl, and I admit I prefer Kahlers! For the main reason that the bar is outta my way!

Re: Who else prefers Floyds??

Floyds are my preferred trem. I never did care for Kahlers. Not exactly sure why, just didn't.

My first Jackson had the JT6, which I couldn't stand. The Kahler type locking system behind nut always wore out letting the strings slip out of tune.

Then I switched to playing nothing but Strats with the vintage style trem, but never really hit it too hard for the fear of being badly out of tune. Then I build a mut with a OFR. It was like awakening from a long sleep. I updated my first Jackson with a real Floyd and modified the nut to a Floyd locking nut. Now it is back in my starting lineup of giggin guitars.

Re: Who else prefers Floyds??

I like the functionality of a floyd but in terms of look, tone and pretty much everything else I prefer string thru. But my next custom will be a floyd (since the one in the works now is a String Thru). After that I may go for something different like a Schaller 475. I like to mix it up And the 475 is a FANTASTIC bridge.

Everything I have has a Floyd or Floyd type bridge with the exception of my RR7, wich I'm gonna let go of, any how. I just don't feel like shelling out another 150.00 to have a Floyd put on this guitar. Floyds are far more comfortable to me , & I'm with Newc I almost never use it, it's more for tuneing than anything else.

Re: Who else prefers Floyds??

I've had several different types of bridges. I currently only have one TOM and the rest have Floyds. I have discovered one thing though. After playing on the Greenie for a few weeks, I realise that I prefer a top mount as opposed to recessed. I've seen a few members through out this post mention that, and I have to agree. My yellow Jackson is starting to lose points. Painted neck, Lo-Pro Floyd. Raw oiled w/top mount just feels better. As for string change, set-up, tuning stability and the rest, if you take a little time and learn to do things right, a Floyd can be your best friend.
