Re: What kind of Charvel is this?
The Kahler trem & dot inlays date that one to '86. Black Cherry was the name for the color. Looks to be in great shape! These have an active midboost circuit in them (if it was left stock), so make sure you put in a fresh 9-volt battery if it's been sitting for that long. Congrats, can't beat the price! Re: What kind of Charvel is this?
thanks guys, its nice to know a bit of information about it, i did change the battery and clean up the frets a bit, it sounds really nice, theres a bit of a buzzing sound from the frets some where, the guitar is in good shape, some scratches on the back, but thats it!

What makes that a Model 4 and not a 3?

For one thing, the Active Midboot circuit w/ three toggle switches is only found on Model 4 & Model 6. For another, I believe the Model 3 had a pickguard.

Re: What kind of Charvel is this?
The major caveat on this guitar is that it is an '86. The evidence that places it as that is 1) dot inlays on the model 4 configuration (hss/mid boost circuit/toggle switches) 2) Kahler flatmount tremolo. In 1986 ALL 6-string variants of the Model 3 (3, 3A) had pickguards and the Kahler Fulcrum tremolo. (remember, the Model 3DR and 3L didn't come along until 1988)Occupy JCF
