    Re: hardcase prices - justified?

Paying for cases can suck. Thru a dealer here and Fender Aust. ordered a Soloist case for a Model 6, and a RR1/KV1 case for my Rhoads Pro, sort of like for an upgrade. The Soloist case I felt was an ok price at AU$220 or so, the Rhoads, being bigger was about $460, just for the case. I couldn't buy it in the US and ship it over cheaper than that, as shipping would have cost me at least $460 for the Rhoads case all up, so it was the best I could do.

Now, to get a more custom case I did pay for a case to be shipped empty from the US, for a Star guitar. Cost me an arm and a leg, and I don't have a guitar for it yet, but it's ready. Since I did that the Charvel Stars are back in production, so had I known, I could have waited and gotten one through Fender again and it would have been cheaper then importing it myself.

I do this cause I like to have the right case for a guitar.

For the 3DR, you need to find the relevant chainsaw charvel case. I'm not sure what, if anything in the current line-up would fit it well. SKB do make cases for Jackson, but I haven't been able to find a way to buy them from SKB. The SKB models in the stores are nice enough, just too generic in their shape and fit.

hey Vic, I hadn't thought of it before but isn't there anyone in Australia that manufactures cases? Like, some guy working out of his back shed that knocks them up for Aussie musos in the know at a good price?

Not really Gary. To make a decent case by hand you can't compete with a company that makes them just as nice but in massive quantities. The handmade one would be as good or better, but not too great on price.

I had an SKB soloist style case initially and the guitar moved too much inside it. A place that does this sort of work didn't want to tackle the job of making it more form fitting. Then I looked into getting a Jackson case when Fender took over, and with a bit of prodding, it was done, so I returned the SKB for the Jackson. I hadn't used it yet, so it was fine.

if the prices on the 2006 pdf INCLUDE import duty of say 25% (hope this is a good guess - the uk is a bastard), then its now £109 for the jcc917. add the 25% and that's £137. that's still cheaper than last year's uk rrp of £200. or must i now add some retailer's bullshit mark-up cost?

Talk to your retailer and find out, it's the only way to get the price it will be to you "landed".

checked today. duh - morons wanted to charge no less than £169 - a cut from the 2005 rrp. another shop wants me to send them the pdf price list and used the words "nah mate, those prices are wrong, it don't work out like that. 100% deposit, non-refundable, conditions have now changed, our new policy". bollocks. i know what's going on. i'm not optimistic as there are only 3 different outlets in my area. nothing in the surrounding countys. shit- now i realise how isolated i am! if I counted correctly £175 = about 262€, then you shouldn't complain. my band's other guitarist really got ripped... he paid 345€ for his OHC for his rr-3...
