I'm 5'10" big boy, and I'll kick your ass in tennis. I grew up with the McEnroes, and trained everyday of my life until I turned 14. I still got it.I play as well as you spell

Ooooh! I was a serious tennis player too...until I got a driver's license and a taste for booze and cigarettes. I played everyday from around 11 until I was 16. Then, I still played quite a bit into college. I was a fucking machine, it was the only sport I had a genuine natural talent for. I may be only 5-9 but I had a strong enough forehand that I lieterally broke 2-3 Wilson Pro-staffs at the top of the head.

I haven't played in YEARS because I would be so depressed if I did. I live literally 100 feet from a health club's tennis courts, but have never joined.

Too many cigs, too much booze and hard living have gone by. But shit, Tommy, my self-abuse pales in comparison to yours...hell, I am a Mormon in comparison to you.

We should play, that would be funny as hell. Too bad we are so far apart.

I'll hit with you anytime. I hit my first tennis balls when I was 4. Severe training then went into action. I stopped playing altogether at 17. Then, 16 years later, my old boss got me a membership at the San Clemente raquet club for Christmas. I played for about a week, and then I beat the one of the pros there. It was pretty cool kicking some yuppie ass at will even after the long layoff. When you start at the age of 4, you never lose it. c'mon out Mikey!!

Re: Mike Learn is one happenin\' dude

I loved Tennis, man. I developed SO quickly. I had a coach, and he was a state champion, he could only beat me 6-4, 6-4 when I was 16. I had real potential. However, I had an achille's heal. I was a choker. When nothing was on the line, I could rip the ball in half. When it came down to brass tacks and I got some fucking pusher on the other side of the court, I was fucked. I needed pace, I craved pace. Someone with wimpy ground strokes and a touch game could take me more often than not. Someone with a huge serve and volley game was going to get hurt, usually within the first game or two (I was a dirty dog, but the best way to intimidate someone is to hit him as quickly as you can with a forehand when they come to the net). Either way, I eventually dropped the game because I hated to lose, and when I did I went McEnroe.

Still, I would love to play and if we were closer we could definitely hook up. I would probably have a coronary within 45 minutes though!!

When I was 15 I could play for 7-8 hours straight...all day in the summer DC heat. Man, I was in shape.

Dude,
I crank everyball that comes over the net. I go for winners everytime. I hit the fence on a fly sometimes, it's hilarious. you gotta have pace. you can intimidate the pushers, but I know how they can make you play below your game.
I'll go anywhere with you Jimmy.

Yeah, I am the same way. That is why they called me "velocity man" at tournament drill. I only had one mode. Of course, I was a complete Lendl fanatic.

Yes, James...we need to take Tommy with us to Estonia.

shit, I played tennis too, for a couple of years since I was 7-8. I was pretty good, I kicked everyone's ass at the practice but the coach was stupid, I didn't got to play REAL games a lot, only those lame-ass excercises. I quit. I found my true love, basketball.

and you crazy bastids are allways welcomed here.

funny listening to you guys...
I just joined a club where every other Monday night the guys get together and play doubles and drink beer, eat food...I have played maybe 3 times in that last twelve years and came out and whipped their asses...now I did feel like an 80 yr old man for a few days afterwards from almost six hours of Tennis, but hey felt good to know I still got it!
