Re: 2003 - Ideas/thoughts ->

Hey McD....here is my ideas: 1: Graphics form the old school days from the pro's we grew up admiring ( DeMartini, Phil Collen, Ojeida, etc). Fender letting Charvel using the strat HS is out of the question ,but, it would be a hot bed of guitars being sold if they did. The forum members are the biggest fans of these types of guitars. 2: More white guitars would be nice....black is overkilled anymore. 3: A D-tune on OFR would be cool.....but, not on all of them. 4: Agreed with fixed bridges/string through comment. Trems are great , but, lack flexibility in alternative tunings and dependability of staying in tune if a string breaks. I dont want to buy a bunch of gizmos like a " TremSetter" or block all my floyds to prevent this. Next, offer wider necks for guys with big hands and/or baritone guitars. I have big hands and Jackon's widest neck is only 1 11/16"...too small for me..I like 1 3/4 and bigger necks.....which brings me to number 5: I dont buy J/Cs anymore because of the small neck reason. Not everyone has small womanly hands and fingers that plays guitar. I could go Custom Shop....but, minimum $2500 order and a 1 year wait....or I go to Warmoth and get what I want in a few weeks for a lot less money ( around $700).-Lou

I also like the oiled neck option that was mentioned before.

Thanks for posting Mcd!

Most of the stuff I want has been mentioned... but I just want to emphasize on Stringthru's!!! Most people on the board would love to see soloist stringthrus (and on other bodies too).

1. Is there any old school things that Charvel Jackson hasn't done in a while that you'd be into seeing us re-introduce?

Non recessed floyds!, Charvels without the "EZ neck access scoop" on the back, Pointy head Charvels! USA Charvels!

2. What finish option should we be doing?

Some nice simple single color paintjobs.. I'm burnt out on all the AAAAAAAAAAAAA tops etc..

3. Should we be using a pickup/bridge/accessory (D-Tuna for example) that we're not?

How about some custom Jackson/Charvel brand (made by SD) pickups.

4. What sucks in the current line

The Charvels. One of the Floyds equipped Fender strats would be a better Charvel than the new Charvels.

5. When is the last time you bought a "new" Charvel or Jackson?

A long time ago.. I saved my pennys last year for a New USA Charvel that I thought would be out this year.. Nothing... got a Computer instead.

Thanks for asking, Brian!

Oiled necks on Soloists and the like.
Tune-o-matic string thrus.
Non-recessed Floyds.
Ols School Charvels.

I haven't bought a new Jackson with a Floyd because of the recessed trems.
The SL2GX is brilliant. Speed Neck!

How about a 1 hum/1 single SL2GX with an oiled neck? I would buy that.

Thanks for asking for our oppinions! First of all I bought new Charvel Traditional this year and I really like it!! (I know they aren't that popular around here though) You need to offer more fixed bridges or vintage trems (enough Floyds already!!!!!) How about a reissue of Model 6 Charvels!! And or 750XL. How about ZIG ZAG Sharkfin inlays!! How's about some guitar straps with Jackson/Charvel logos on them or even sharkfins!! I guess I'm done dreaming for now! Hey McD,

Thanks for the chance to make suggestions.

1. Is there any old school things that Charvel Jackson hasn't done in a while that you'd be into seeing us re-introduce?

Two things come to mind: Roswell Rhoads and DR2

2. What finish option should we be doing?

There's a lot of nice options I don't really have anything to add here.

3. Should we be using a pickup/bridge/accessory (D-Tuna for example) that we're not?

D-Tuna on some models would be good. I don't really find a use for the Turbocharger on some of the imports though.

4. What sucks in the current line (let me guess: everything? LOL already!!!)

Just the lack of continuity due to the (ha ha ha) constant changing of names, specially on the imports. Ex: KVX - KV3 - KV Pro etc. Sometimes it's hard to tell wich one is better than the other if you don't look at the specs, which are not always available (mother of al info pages?)

5. When is the last time you bought a "new" Charvel or Jackson?

I bought a DXMG last year, and a DK2 this year. Next one should be a USA Select, from Matt.

Enjoy

USA Charvels! Perhaps these are already in the works for this summer though, from what I hear...

I'd like to see:

1. Maple fretboards.
2. The larger, more rounded SD Strat style bodies.
3. Hard-tails...be they strat style or ABR, no matter.

Re: 2003 - Ideas/thoughts ->

One thing to sum it all up: Jackson should operate their custom shop like B.C Rich, this would solve all the accessories/options problems.

Thanks for asking!!

I think most things have already been covered.

In general, bring back the quality and style of the original San Dimas Charvels. While some of the Japanese versions, etc have been decent guitars they have never matched the originals.

Plus, since Fender owns Charvel/Jackson why not make some strat headstock Charvels.

The last new Jackson I purchased was a Rhoads LTD. However, before and after that I have purchased a handful of used Jacksons and original San Dimas Charvels. All USA stuff, no imports.

Thanks again for asking!

Oh boy. First of all, his name is Kevin. Kevin Easton. With all due respect to the new team, he's got a fair amount to do with the good stuff in J/C's mojo. And I'm sure there's more of that still in him.

Anyway, on to your questions... First of all, THANK YOU for asking!!! Incredibly cool, and positive sign from you all.

"1. Is there any old school things that Charvel Jackson hasn't done in a while that you'd be into seeing us re-introduce?"

U-S-A CHARVELS!!! I was sorely disappointed to only see one-offs at winter NAMM. The template for getting it right was recently finished: the GuitarXPress Bullseye reissue. Most importantly: the neck profile. Otherwise, Strat and Dinky bodies. Maple and Rosewood 22 fret 'boards with dots. Old-school graphics and solids. 1 hum, 2 hum, 1 hum / 1 SC. ...Crossing my fingers for summer NAMM.

"2. What finish option should we be doing?"

With respect to the USA Select line, no real complaints. How about adding a red-to-purple burst? (...Is that what "raspberry `burst" looks like? Can't find a pic of it.) Bring back trans-purple and candy apple red metallic. And a darker ("oxblood"?) trans red. Maybe even a simple dark red-to-black burst. Graphics-wise: ditch the grey snakeskin, bring back green & brown. And old-style "hot wheels" flames.

"3. Should we be using a pickup/bridge/accessory (D-Tuna for example) that we're not?"

Some more Dimarzios would be nice. Bring back the Super Distortion to one or two models. Or Tone Zones? Their Vintual Vintage SC series is sweet, too.

Personally, I wouldn't buy one but... mix in a few brass vintage trems. Applicable to #1, but mostly original Floyds are a must!

And, with all due respect to my fellow JCF'rs, I think the string-through thing is overhyped. I suspect it's one of those deals where - when push comes to shove - many folks won't actually put money where their mouth is. I'm not saying ditch `em. Just betting that many of them'll really be buyin' floyds.

"4. What sucks in the current line (let me guess: everything? LOL already!!!)"

The lack of stratheads. Lock the lawyers in a room with the product planners, and the last one alive wins. Seriously - I know I'm beating a dead horse here - but find a way. Again, see #1.

Otherwise, it would be very cool if one or more of the following things became USA Select options w/out having to go full blown custom shop pricing: hardware color, fretboard wood (...maple & rosewood), a "dot inlays / delete binding" choice, and matching headstock. Maybe call `em "USA Special" orders, instead? And, heck yes, I would be willing to pay some extra for each.

I agree that the Dinky Rhoads (XTRR) was killed off before it had a chance. The reverse headstock and oiled neck probably didn't help it's popularity. Or, how about giving an archtop Rhoads model a try? It's never been done. (...I'm not counting the Roswell shape as a "real" RR.)

"5. When is the last time you bought a "new" Charvel or Jackson?"

Last month: Charvel Bullseye. Before that? ...Well, I could go on for a little while. ...And, oh yeah, got a custom shop order pending from early last year.

And, yes, there's money burning a hole in my pocket waiting for new product. So hurry up, will `ya?! Please? Like before I do something stupid, and spend it on amps or somethin'. DOH!!!

THANKS AGAIN!

Thanks for caring about what the fans want and not just about what's popular at the time. You guys are doing a great job keeping the Jackson/Charvel name alive and better than ever.

1. Is there any old school things that Charvel Jackson hasn't done in a while that you'd be into seeing us re-introduce?

Non-recessed floyds would be cool as an option, one humbucker.

2. What finish option should we be doing?

Choices as to whether or not we want quilted tops or flame tops. I would like to see some more 80s graphics come back.

3. Should we be using a pickup/bridge/accessory (D-Tuna for example) that we're not?

Please make DiMarzios pickups available as well as Seymour Duncans! DiMarzio fans aren't just limited to Ibanez players!

It'd also be cool to have a choice as to whether or not we wanted a D-Tuna.

Hardware color should be a choice on at least the USA models. A hardware color choice on imports as well would be a plus.

4. What sucks in the current line (let me guess: everything? LOL already!!!)

Nothing sucks in the line... just need more options.

5. When is the last time you bought a "new" Charvel or Jackson?

Last year. RR3 which I upgraded with DiMarzios.
