3. Maybe add that buzz feiten thing as an option to some selects. Add random switches (splitting, phase switches.etc) to the beginner guiotars. Beginners like switches. I second the floyd rose on cheaper guitars.
4. Can you try and make the kelly model more balanced. No matter what anyone says my one dive bombs.

First up, like everyone else said, thanks for asking, that's really cool of you.

Secondly, I know some of what I'm going to say HAS been said up above but the moire people that say it the more my wants get to the top of the list and maybe even the realms of possibility - lol.


1. Is there any old school things that Charvel Jackson hasn't done in a while that you'd be into seeing us re-introduce?

I don't know much about "the old school" but I would say more regular droppy headstocks and less reversed and bring back the import Roswell.

2. What finish option should we be doing?

The "swirl" finishes are immense, I love those, black and darker colours is always good.

3. Should we be using a pickup/bridge/accessory (D-Tuna for example) that we're not?

Hmmm, I've got a D-Tuna, it lasted 2 days before I took it off. I'm going right off floating bridges as well, less Floyds and more fixed bridges, tun-o-matics, string thru', vintage style flat mount, whatever, just less floyds!

4. What sucks in the current line (let me guess: everything? LOL already!!!)

I'm not into the headstocks on the current Charvels, I'm not saying I would go ga-ga if "Strat-heads" turned up but I would rather see a pointy than what they have now.

5. When is the last time you bought a "new" Charvel or Jackson?

Over 4 years ago and I ain't got that guitar any more - however, after I get my bonus and I've fixed my cars breaks I'm hoping to be able to bag myself a DK2 Crimson Swirl from the jcf's favourite store [img]images/icons/smile.gif[/img] fingers crossed.

Is there any old school things that Charvel Jackson hasn't done in a while that you'd be into seeing us re-introduce? the obvious, infamous headstock design, usa charvels, maybe borrow a few of the jcf members charvels to measure the neck specs and find out exactly what is different about the charvels from then(neck radius, feel, etc...i'll volunteer one of mine, i'm sure others would too....)

cobalt blue is a dark blue but cobalt swirl is light blue? [img]graemlins/scratchhead.gif[/img] a dark green swirl with gold hardware might be cool...

personally, i've not had any bad experiences, but i've heard rumblings around the board about q.c., maybe concentrate on that...

5. When is the last time you bought a "new" Charvel or Jackson? 1996, blue marble san dimas re-issue...(it's in the gallery)

overall, k. easton seemed to be on the right track with a lot of his ideas, maybe grab him as a consultant to bounce ideas off of? the lines are pretty strong, but the guitars definitely need to be put into the hands of some high profile players...just like a band, these guitars need to be marketed to the public as great, quality guitars of today, not relics from the 80's...hope this helps...d.m.

Full sized Strat bodys (not dinky) Charvels with 22 fret Maple/Maple necks (pointy and Strat heads) matching headstocks, non-recessed Floyd Rose Oiginals. Graphic options would also be cool. H, H-H, H-S-S, and H-S pickup options, no pckguards.

Last new Guitar I bought was 2001 was the Jackson JCF-01 Rhoads. I did buy a few used old Import Model Charvels though.

I already posted my suggestions, and I don't want to drift on the topic, but I want to pass this on to you...

I live in Minneapolis, MN, and the in-store selection of Jacksons in this area is really weak. I called a local Guitar Center and asked if they had any RR models in stock I could come and play, and they said no. Excuse me??? This is one of your most popular models! I called another Jackson dealer, and they said they had no Jacksons in stock. None. Zip. Nadda.

You guys make incredible guitars, and just like the guy from New York who posted earlier said, it is frustrating when you can't find a good selection of your products in the stores that are supposed to be representing Jackson. I can't help but think this is cutting into your sales.

Add some Hardtails (Select series, WITH 24 frets). Schaller 456 Fine tuner or the new hardtail floyd (convergent).

There's still no 24 fret Rhoads! Seriously, there's ALOT of people waiting for this!!! Please? Preferably with the bridge moved towards the neck for better access. And it would have to be a neckthrough, naturally.

All the neckthrough's should have a soloist heel.

This fall I bought a KV4. Omg, it's a beauty. Next one will be a KE2 or, if i'm lucky, you will produce a 24 fret version of the RR1 in the selectseries, which will lead me to buying that one.

P.S. I meant all this as changes to the Select series (or Japaneese neckthroughs).

The 24 fret Rhoads is all I really care for. The other things I mentioned were just things I thought could be cool. Anyway, I am more than willing to put my money into a 24 Rhoads. I just hope I can buy it as a production model, and not a Custom.

hey brian,

first of all, thanks for asking, and thanks for stayin on the board! here's what i'd like to see:

Charvels:

- real brass hardtails
- 3/3 gold logos
- nicer looking vintage trems, not the ones used on the San Dimas reisssues
- pointy headstocks
- skunk stripes
- bolt-on only
- raised and relic-ed neckplates (like the ones at namm)

Jacksons:

- more gold hardware options on imports
- model names, not abbreviations
- metal pickup rings
- no inlays on a bound neck

Finish options:

- align with what you're already doing at fender (like the cool racing stripes, the skull n crossbone graphics) while adding the old jackson stuff like rising suns, snakeskin, bullseyes, hotwheels flames, and why not a basic camo graphic?

Bodies/Models to introduce (or bring back)

- Roswells, but with finish options
- Disrupters
- import version of the PCS Rhoads (RR5 is close, but why not mini reverse sharks?)
- King Kelly with cutouts (i know it won't happen, but i had to chuck it out there)

guys, i gotta tell you that the neck profile on the USA charvels is like the old san dimas ones. they did it right. but the most important thing to me is that the charvels stay the "original hot rod guitar," meaning don't dress 'em up - these guitars were born as frankenstein-esque mutts....embrace that history (which i think you will) and work it into the marketing. yogadork has the idea and keeps it alive by getting sweet old charvels and parting them and modding them to his liking. THAT'S what it's about. i don't need a pretty quilt top charvel...if i want that, i'll get a PC1. gimme a brass hardtail, one screamin humbucker, one volume knob, and let me beat it all to hell.

Hmm, let´s see...I´d like to see maple fretboards as an option on most guitars, and of course pointy-head USA CHARVELS in the true San Dimas-tradition.

The Select-line of finishes is super. No complaints here.

Add the classic Jackson active electronics as an option on USA-models.

The import line doesn´t look too hot, but since I´m not in the market for imports I´ll leave the comments to those that are. The USA-line looks good.

Ok, here's my rant/plea: PLEASE do not turn J/C into a "vintage" operation like Gibson! Frankly, and I'm not sucking up here, Fender has gotten it right in recent years by balancing the line between vintage reissues and modern models. Gibson is nothing but nostalgia now. That said, J/C does have a great history that should be honored--I'm personally a fan of the J/C's from the late '80s-early '90s. But in the rush of comments here pleading for reissues of classic Charvels, I have to say that Troy from VENTT is absolutely correct in his post about ideas for innovative NEW models. I second everything in his post.

Having said that, please take a look at the Japanese Jacksonstars web site. Take the Archtop Soloist you see there, and introduce it worldwide with NO changes, and I'd do whatever I have to do to get one. Also, the KellyStar there is really cool and could be launched worldwide, as well. Further, you might consider reintroducing a line of guitars with 24.75" scale necks ala the old Fusion series.

2. What finish option should we be doing?

As long as the paint stays on the guitar, I'm happy.

If using original Floyd Roses on the imports is not cost-effective, then at least consider upgrading the quality of the trems you do use on the imports--the JT-580, along with the horrible Duncan Design p'ups, is the major reason why I have opted to stick with buying used J/Cs from 1986-91 rather than a new import (USAs are out of my price range). The JT-580 feels and plays cheap, and that is death in a competitive market.

See topic #3. Other than that, J/Cs are killer, even the imports. The imports play so much better than comparable offerings from ESP and Schecter, it's not even funny. But DO get rid of those horrible plastic sharkfin inlays. They look cheap and make an immediate bad impression.

5. When is the last time you bought a "new" Charvel or Jackson?

Unfortunately, never. But then, out of the ~30 guitars I've owned since 1982, I can only recall 3 that I bought new. But you put out that Archtop Soloist from the Japanese line over on this side of the Pacific, and you'll have yourself a sale! I have owned 5 J/C's over the years that I bought used, however. Everything from a San Dimas Soloist to a 1990/91 Fusion Pro that is my #1 player at the moment.

Again, thanks for asking us--this board is a living repository of Jackson's history and has some use for the company, I believe. Of course, there seem to be about a hundred different ideas here, none of which (including mine) make any economic sense, I'm sure...

Schaller floyds if your going to do floyded models. but for the rythmist like me i would suggest string thru models or that weird dridge with the fine tuners but no trem arm. thats the kahler apm something something right ?

As far as new models go . . . i really wanna see production model death angels or production model explorer's. enuff with the bolt on's. i mean my kelly is a bolt on and i love it. but it just isn't as special as a neck thru.
