  • Buzz Feiten Tuning, Pleking, Stainless Steel Frets

By my own admission, I am an Anderson/Suhr "homer". I love those guitars, and even more so, the manner in which they are constructed. Consistent doesn't begin to describe the build-quality, the wood-quality, and TONE, evident in these guitars. Are these characteristics a direct result of Feitenized tuning, SS frets or a plek'd neck? No, but they're are certainly a "component" of the overall playing experience. (for the record Tom Anderson will NOT use a Plek machine as he says, "my guys can set up a neck as well as anyone out there. the Plek machine is for folks who cannot." Fair enough.)

All that said, I've returned to my roots. My 80's roots. And am on the verge of placing my first Jackson CS order.

I understand from several JCF members that these new "technological" advances, specifically the SS frets, are NOT the norm.

In addition to my Suhr's and Anderson's, I've got 2 Wolfgang Customs, both w/ SS frets. Tim Litchfield, PV's master CS luthier, reiterated what a bitch SS is to work with, but that the "slinkiness" of play could NOT be denied. I will add that IMHO (as well as Tom and John's) SS does not have any appreciable impact on tone.

Due to the Jackson shop's apparent aversion to SS, I am leaning towards NOT going w/ SS frets, let alone BFTS or neck Pleking, even with the improvements in intonation and elimination of misfretting and deadspots.

    Thoughts?
    thanks.

I'd say order a fretless, then take it wherever and have whoever do whatever with it.
