remember the lina twins? well, imagine a network of them.

i'll try to say this as objectively as i can...

from my very small understanding of it, it's used as a networking tool for people. bands use it to get their tunes out, and people also use it to meet people. it's free, and for people who want some kinda site, but either don't know how to build one/don't want to spend money for one. it's quick and easy to get started.

that said, every single myspace page i've ever seen looks as if it was designed by helen keller on a 3-day crack bender.

You're right, it's used for networking - and as far as being old school, I hated the day I bought a cell phone, but Myspace is actually very cool. As a guy that's in a few bands, it's a nice place to put music up that people all over the world can/will check out. As a guy that's looking for bands, it's a great tool as well. I've never "met" anyone on Myspace, but I've discovered some cool bands and actually got some nice compliments on my music. Now, if you haven't seen some of the chicks on there, ... dude!!!

Geez, aint that the truth. I can't even be bothered to look at anything that chaotic.

It's a throwback to the old days where people used to cram tons of shit onto a web page, and then, just to make sure it was impossible to read, they'd throw in a bunch of flashing, animated GIFs.

And I thought I was the only one who couldn't handle myspace pages...

But then again, I'm old, and getting crochety, as you can see.

                        Re: jackson myspace

myspace looks fine if you've got something to promote i suppose. otherwise it's dork central.

                        "thanks for the add"

"have a great ______ day (or weekend)" (that the person sends to 2000 of their closest "friends"

                        "great site"

then there's all the dudes that post to the other dudes sites (who are pretending to be hot chicks). you go guys.

this one coworker of mine has like 5000 myspace buddies because he goes and finds hot chicks and adds them. for what? just to have them in a list?

sully, my myspace page is particularly hideous - i'm sure you can figure out the url on your own. although it could use some blinking backgrounds for a final touch.

That describes 99.83% of people on there.

I have one to keep in contact with my students, and they all think mine is boring because I have neither obnoxious videos nor flashing things nor a background made up of a poorly made gif set to repeat. I also have less than thirteen colors in use at any given time. :^(

You can do some decent stuff with MySpace if you're willing to spend a long time screwing with all the IDs and classes (there's not much getting around the cluttered ugliness of the default page layout, though, without real work), but by the time you make something nice, you might as well have designed a your own damned site from the ground up. You could then host it with somebody that DOESN'T have an extremely shitty server. :^|

                          -Joseph

PS: Most MySpace design problems would go away rather quickly if people would stop offering WYSIWYG editors for it.

not sure if the old school comment was for me or not, but i'll be one of the first people to go to something new if it's cool/looks neat. bright and shiny objects usually catch my eye. i do think that they should offer free flaming skull .gifs with each template.

seriously tho, i do see the band appeal b/c you can just upload your shit and you're all set. i just think that it'd be much better if they gave you some choices that weren't horrendous.

I'm on there but I kept my page somewhat basic, a couple of pictures of stuff I like , & a little bit of info about me & what I like. With the exception of the bands on my list I know everyone on my list of friends. I have lees than 60 people on my friends list. haveing thousands unless your a band promoteing is just retarded.
