  • My Intro

Hi, My name is charlie, and thats the name I use on most forums. I really don't know much about jacksons, I am an lpf refugee, pre charter member of all its various predecessors. This forum was recommended to me by Davep because I need some info about a guitar. A friend of mine wants to get rid of his Jackson, and wanted me to help him figure out its worth. I realize that this is a common thing for folks to come to a different forum for and I have tried to do some research and used search functions to help. As I don't want to be too far off the mark, it seemed a good reason to come consult with the specialists. Hopefully next week I can find time to get pictures, make them a reasonable size and hopefully you folks can help me. The guitar is an 87 with san dimas plate, (I assume assembled in ontario) It has a serial of i think 4767. I got the year from a sticker in the trem cavity which states custom color (lavender). Has a bunch of changed parts, but the originals are at hand, except for the trem, it has a floy rose, which I believe is the same one that was offered as an option, alas the original kahler is the one part not to be found. My initial guess was its worth about five bills. At any rate, if anyone has an issue with me coming here trying to find out this info, then I wont bother and will happily move along. As I said I am just trying to find out an accurate value for my bud so he knows what to ask for it, and any assistance would be appreciated, thanks, charlie

      Re: My Intro

Hello, welcome to the JCF!! To be 100% honest, and I am sure that you already know this, the exact value of that guitar is...whatever you can get someone to pay for it. Working in a vintage music store, I can tell you there is no standard price for used guitars, especially ones as unique as you are describing. Sure, since Fender cranks out over a thousand American Strats a week, the going rate for a good used one is pretty consistent, but unfortunately there is no real accurate "blue book" for electric guitars. Actually, there IS a Blue Book for electric guitars, but the prices that you find in there can be off by several hundred dollars, depending where you are, who you are buying from, how good you are at bargaining, etc...

Also there is no formula that we have to calculate an exact value of the guitar based on exactly what parts are original, what parts are retrofitted, what damage it has sustained, and so on.

Having said that there are several members on this board who can tell you from their experience what you may be in the ballpark for, but actually getting the most for your electric guitar is an art in itself...

I don't mean to sound condescending(how can I when I can't even spell!!), and I wish you and your friend the best of luck getting the most you can for that fine guitar!! CHEERS!!

i have a similar guitar as the one you describe, mine is a D1 made in 1988(i think) with a floyd rose and serialnumber 4029. it has the san dimas plate but is biult in ontario (at least so i was told) mine is signed by groover jackson on the back of the head and has the blue/black crackle finish.

anyway.. i traded my used Gibson LesPaul Studio winered w/ chrome hardware for this guitar with the original hardcase.
if i was to sell the gibson i would probebly get around 7000 Sek and that would be aprox 870UsD.
