I agree with Noe Pacheco comments above. I am a very novice guitar player and I don't post very often because I just don't have the knowlege or skills to add anything constuctive. I don't want to be like others and just post to make fun of people or point out grammar/spelling mistakes or to inform people that they should use the search engine before answering a question [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img] (Just kidding Ron) I do however come to this board on a daily basis because I just love everything about guitars. I have to have a daily guitar fix by looking at other peoples newly acquired guitars or reading about someone's experience with a particular amp, or listening to someone playing in the mp3 setion, or what new custom shop guitar is going to be ordered and the list goes on. I have been a member since the original board and I hope one day I will be able to give back as much as I have taken away.

To quote Jeremy Piven, "Don't be that guy." And we're definitely not promoting that. There are different ways that people can get involved in the forum. One way is an introduction. Who knows, maybe there's something in your story that prompts a question from another member and before you know it you've just added something to the board. Then post pix of your guitars. I have posted pictures, but I guess that was awhile ago. I currently don't have a Jackson as I sold my KE1 Marty Friedman sig guitar to stratheadcharvel. The only guitar I have at the moment is a Fender Richie Kotzen Tele that I purchased from fritzreiser and dinkyjacksonman back in Jan/Feb of 2005. Thanks again guys. I posted pictures when I received the guitar, but I guess I could post again.

This is really directed at those who haven't posted since becoming members. Nobody should be criticizing you for your post count or lack thereof. We're just trying to wake up those who joined the board and haven't contributed anything.

Tekky, how do you guys (admins) handle the insignificant post from junior members for the intent of gaining access to the classified section? Some can gain 100 post in a very short period with no significant contribution to the JCF. How’s this judged? BTW admins do a great job maintaining “order” on this board. I personally have no problem with lurkers who "only take and don't give" - as was stated, most times "we" know more than "they" do, so unless they have some rare bit of info (read: "my uncle is Grover Jackson, and he said....") what exactly can they contribute?

There are tons of pics in the Gallery for that.

Everything else can be found with the Search function (usually).

I mean, it's not like this is a Warez site where one or two people are putting up all the files and 30,000 people are downloading them without uploading something in return.
Just because you don't have something to contribute doesn't mean you have nothing to gain.

I'm sure some of these people take the info found here and spread it into the "real world" - either to spread the word about Jackson/Charvel-related issues (Fender buyout, etc) or to make informed decisions in their local music or pawn shop.

I know CPR, but I may never use it. I don't actively seek opportunities to use it, but if I run across a situation where I need it, it's there.

Same thing here: A lurker may never own a Custom Shop Jackson or San Dimas Charvel, but they can at least spot one and (hopefully) tell a fake from a real one.

if this forum didnt hide all its content then ppl wouldnt need to register to view the valuable information contained therein. (this is one of the tiny, miniscule amount of forums that actually 'hides' its forums until you register and i quite frankly find that a pointless thing to do). If the forums were 'unhidden' then people could browse the wealth of info without registering, but if they enjoyed the banter they could sign up and join in. The forums should be set so that only registered forum users can post replies/new posts anyway to avoid spam.

Then you wouldnt need to send out bulk emails and waste bandwidth asking idlers who havent used their account (probably because they just wanted to 'unhide' the hidden forums) to start using it or lose it.

I've run forums for a few large UK online gaming companies so know the score from an admin standpoint.

hiding forums is a cheap way to up your registered user count for stats figures but doesnt actually achieve anything realistically. IMHO

I've been to quite a few forums that had all manner of access methods - from "no one gets in until they register" to "everyone come in and make a mess". The best method IMO is "join if you want to join in, take if you want to take, just don't start no sh*t".

The simple fact is that not everyone has something to contribute that is not redundant. The Jackson/Charvel Universe is smaller than the Star Wars universe, so redundancy can become even more commonplace.

I don't understand the idea that people should not be allowed into a community simply because they can't contribute. I'm sure lots of lurkers would love to build a complete Jackson/Charvel Universe compendium, but that's already being worked on.
How about a Flash-based online application that allows you to build mockups of Custom Shop ideas and Dream Guitars?

Many of you lurkers might want to visit the non J/C section, there is always something interesting going on over there, you'll find people with a similar interest in guitars can have some different opinions on other issues, and a lack of technical guitar knowledge isn't going to prevent you from getting into the mix, get familiar with some of the other members, and then maybe you might feel more comfortable chiming in on some of the other threads, [img]/images/graemlins/cool.gif[/img]
