      • Well, I'm a new guy here and while I havent really made any pals, there's a few guys from HC that I know.

Look forward to it, though, and I have no problem with the 100 post rule. I wouldnt want the classifieds to become a breeding ground for spammers n' scammers either, especially with the quality of gear that I'm sure gets traded in there every day.

        • One of the big problems was hit and runners. We would get spammers listing boatloads of gear for dealers. Or guys who would NEVER get involved and just sit waiting for gear to get listed so they could grab it. We have had deals go sour and tried to mediate all being told it was none of the administrations business..

We had people list gear and get hit with negative comments but the one that gets really irritating is "bump for a nice axe" "bump for a brother" constantly .. this was how we arrived at no replies on Charvel Central and ultimately here... Or someone who posts in the classifieds I'll take it while joe schmoe is smart enough to pm and email and get it..

With that said and take this for what it might be worth. We don't charge anyone for access to use the classifieds here. They are totally free and people tend to over look that, as though they feel they aren't getting their moneys worth .. Ebay isn't free, the local newspaper isn't free.. Both of these mediums have a similarity.. they require the buyer to do a bit of work... email, phone etc..

          • about the bumping...I'm on that one guitar forum where we have a classifieds section, but the bumping is totaly prohibited. When you post in your own topic AND bump it up, it gets locked or deleted immediatly. You are only allowed to set a new price or write if there are any new changes to the instrument/whatever you are selling. Topic that gets no replies for a 21 days is deleted and if you want you can repost it. I don't know what rules you have here at classifieds section, because I'm not allowed there yet, but I think that these my suggestion are good to think over.

            • Issue with bumping is generally for other people and not for the originator, the person who starts the ad has the ability to reply ..

then I think it would be a good idea to lock (or delete) the topic aswell. The people will then learn that they're only doing harm to the ones that are selling stuff with the bump or "i wish i had the money" etc... And doing harm to others is NOT what you want. That's pretty much the only solution I see.

                • If bumping is prohibited, you might want to scan the classifieds.

Bumping isn't prohibited.. it is the poster of the thread that does it now ..

"DO NOT post "gone" or anything else. Doing so just bumps active ads to a different page. Ignorance is not an excuse and will not be tolerated."

I guess the "anything else" had me confused.

                        • On other boards I visit, when an item sells, you are encouraged to edit the original post with "sold" or whatever.. Editing the post doesn't bump it, but it keeps people from digging it up if the item is marked sold. Some places ask you to delete it, but no one ever bothers. So, the admin prunes stuff over 30 days old.

                            • One thing about not being able to add a post to the classifieds is when a previous owner chimes in to vouch for the gear/seller,that to me will be missed. Since alot of the gear here tends to be passed back and forth between members it's nice to see a response from someone who once owned it and has some additional info. (Yes I do this when someone gets rid of something I sold to them, nothing wrong with helping someone out)

And as far as things like "Posting nice guitar or if it only has gold hardware, etc" adding no value, well hell, there are a million posts with the exact same lines all over other sections of the board.

The bumps are rather silly though, since most people here I would imagine have already seen the ad and aren't interested, don't have the cash, wife will castrate them ,etc.
