That's the only difference? I thought it had a new bridge instead of that cheapie one they've been using?

The bridge has been redesigned and the pups are real Seymour Duncans.

Almost. I believe the ordinary DK2 still has H-S-S?
Both models have the upgraded trem for 2006 though.

What exactly was upgraded on the trem? I originally heard they were going to have real Floyd Rose trems on them, but clearly that isn't the case. Back in the day, they used the Schaller trems and those were fantastic. Then they went to the current model which is, shall we say, less than fantastic. I'm anxious to see how they've improved it.

Right, the only difference between the DK2 and DK2M besides the maple neck are the pickups (DK2=HSS, DK2M=HH), although they're real Seymour Duncans on both (DK2=JB & 2 Classic Stacks, DK2M=JB and a '59). The trem on both is an "improved" version of the JT580 Low Profile, with hardened steel bridge plate and hardened posts.

So if you like the body but not the maple neck (I agree, by the way, although I'm definitely in the minority here ), and can stand a HSS pup config, get a DK2. Both have the new trem.

Will a JT-590 fit the post spacing and cavity? If it would, I think a DK2 might be nice.. And yes, I adore a 2-1-1 guitar..

I have no idea. From what I've read here, the OFR is a straight drop-in, but the FR Pro (Low Profile) is not. Since I've never owned the Schaller, I can't really compare it to either, but according to Jackson, the stock trem on the new DK2 is definitely better than the old JT580; in fact, I noticed they're not even calling it a "JT580" (see Jackson price list & NAMM pdf). Might not be a Schaller, but certainly an upgrade.

And hell, its the stock trem on the DK2M too, so at the very least you'd be getting the DK2M body and bridge, but with Rosewood fingerboard and HSS config.

Actually, if you plan to replace the bridge, take a look at the DXMG. Its got the same Dinky body, but with Rosewood and reverse headstock. Only con is the JT500 bridge, but if you replace that with a JT590, you'll have everything you wanted!

Yup - provided that the new JT580LP has the same dimensions as the old ones. The Schaller/JT590 will even leave room to spare in the back of the route (about half an inch).

If I were to get a maple neck/headstocked guitar, the body would have to be clear maple as well, or some color that coordinates with the maple shade.

DXMGs since 2002 have the 580 trem.

I agree, I like the darker blue better than the old cobalt blue, darl blue is a nice compromise from black. Jack.

From what I've read here, the 2006 DXMG has been "downgraded". DK2 and DKMG will now have "improved" JT580, but the DXMG gets the JT500 (I think) or its current equivalent (ie, its not the "Low Profile" version anymore). Since DKMG also now has real EMGs, while the DXMG keeps the HZs, it looks like they're trying to more clearly separate the price points?

I think it was in one of the 2006 NAMM threads that I saw that about the DXMG's trem?
