Re: Mustaine spoke -

still respect my Jackson Guitars. And you better too, they are now collector’s items, and ‘you’re welcome’ for the increase in value.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">That's nice and peachy of him to be gloating the collector's value of his own stuff. People only want them to increase in value because he wanted $7000+ each for them, and no one wants to get stuck with HUGE depreciation.

Nothing he said - if that's really him - has changed my mind about Mustaine. The guy's still a d**che.

And, I agree: the concept of an artist's signature guitar model has never motivated me to buy one. While I do own a PC1, it's because the guitar's specs and look appealed to me a lot. Nothing against him or DefLep in general, but I'd actually prefer it if PC's signature weren't on the headstock. Luckily, his hand-writing is chickenscratch, so you hardly notice it. does it really matter who plays what? Are Jackson guitars any less in quaility because an endorsee jumps ship? not like it has never happened before. Jackson still makes killer guitars.

          Re: Mustaine spoke -

As far as this whole mess affects Jackson is really my only concern. Obviously they have lost many big name endorsers before, but at this stage of the game who do they have left? I haven't looked at the artist endorsement list for awhile, but do they have any other artists that are on a major label?

Now obviously Jackson is still going to make the same quality of instruments that they would have even if Dave stayed on board. I'm pretty sure Dave didn't have control of the QC department.

I think artist series guitars are a neat idea, but not worth jacking the price up to compensate someone for their name on the damn thing. Personally I would not have bought the KV Pro if when I played it it didn't feel, sound, and look right to me.

On to his possible endorsement... I don't really care. It's Dave's thing not mine. If it works for him then great. I don't really care for the Y2K V because it reminds of a Gibson V with a better neck and neckthru construction. So if he goes with Gibson I would guess that is what we will see. That being said I wouldn't mind a Gibson V for the collection. Basically what this last statement means is that it wouldn't be a main player, just something different for a change once in a while. I imagine I will also get a Strat at some point as well for the collection.
The main thing I see regarding the new endorsement is that Dave will probably be back to recording &/or touring in the near future.

OK I think that is enough rambling on my part.

I'm loving the Jaded Faith mods. Going Egnater Dual mod route: Voxless, SL-OD100, Brahma #39, QuickMod GT

It appears Gibson is atleast trying to grab some big names. It is a bold move for them. It will be interesting to see what unfolds within the business the next few years.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I just saw Bon Jovi last night - Richie played his gold strat about half the night, teles for the other 1/4, and then a Flying V For the detuned stuff, and a couple Les Pauls I've seen him play before. Oh yeah - and a GMP Les Paul DC style guitar. If Richie is endorsing anything, it's everything! He's probably an "official" endorsee for Gibson however. But he's played everything throughout the years - even when he was a Kramer endorsee, he played Jacksons, Hamers, etc...

Imagine how expensive a Gibson sig model for him would cost....especially to us UK people

On the argument about why the new James Hetfield model ESP LTD (the 'Grynch) is limited to 260-

If you have noticed, every guitar James has ever had a signature with ESP has been limited to 200. This one is 260. The JH-1 Flying V with flames, the JH-2 diamond plated Explorer, the JH-3 Les Paul with pinstripes, all limited to 200. This one is no different. And actually he is only using 1 Gibson Les Paul Custom currently, the other Les Paul looking guitars are ESPs.

And as far as endorsements effecting sales...I have no better example than this-

Hofner Violin basses used to be considered crap before Paul McCartney started playing them. When they had a tag with McCartney giving a thumbs up for it, they sold like hotcakes.

Of course, woulda been better if they even SMELLED like hotcakes...

Bah, I don't believe for a minute that Dave actually posted that. I'm not questioning or supporting the accuracy of what was said, but honestly, do you all think Dave really gives a crap what we all think about his supposed future endorsement deal.

Personally, I think Dave will sign a deal with Samick and we shall see a really cool Samick Dave Mustaine signature model very soon.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">No, but he has never struck me as a person to sit around while people are slinging sh!t around about him. There is a lot of BS going around about this, and he took some time to set some things straight as well as tell everyone to STFU until he announces something.

The only problem with the "damn the endorsements" view (and I don't base buying decisions on endorsements, either) is that endorsements=higher sales, and higher sales=more models and options.

After thinking about it, I did have artist guitars in the past. I have had many Les Paul's, I now own a Rhoads V, and I had two Jem's.

A new ESP model doesn't secure James to ESP. Perhaps he is simply obligating his contract and will be shopping once it runs out. Looking back, I haven't seen him with an ESP in a while now.

Though, he's been with ESP since the late '80s, so why would he change now? In the studio he uses his ESPs, Fenders, Gibsons, whatever else, but I don't see him giving up his ESP deal, but then again, who knows?
