  • Jackson and Floyd string spacing

So I have 4 USA Jacksons. The three I play most are as follows

SL2HT, KE2T, and a King V with a Floyd. The space between the strings on each differs. With the KE2 the strings are closer than all of the above, and the KingV they are the farthest apart (because of the floyd I imagine)
My question is....Will any Jackson with a Floyd have the same string spacing or do they differ by neck? It looks to me by looking at the Floyd on the V that the Floyd pretty much dicatates the spacing between the strings but was not 100% +
    Thanks guys

The floyd dictates the spacing at the bridge itself, and should be the same on all guitars.

The nut width should be similar on all guitars, as they should all have a 1 11/16" width or very close. But between an R3 and an R4 you´ll notice a difference in spacing, even on the same neck.

String guage also plays a role in percieved spacing... are all the guitars strung with the same guage?

What do they mean by Butt width? (1 11/16" nut 2 1/4" Butt Width)

Butt width = Width of the end of the neck

            Hello
This got me thinking so I measured the string spacing on three of my guitars. I measured at the saddles, above the 24th fret, and at the nut. They were all the same at the nut: 1 and 15/32 inches. Here's what I measured, first at the saddles, then above the 24th fret. It's all in inches.

            KVX10: 2, 1 7/8
            DKMG: 2 1/16, 1 15/16
            Charvel Fusion: 2 1/8, 1 15/16

They're all a little different and they all have different bridges. The King V is a string through, the DKMG has a Jackson JT580LP, and the Charvel has a Schaller made Floyd. What suprised me is that the King V has the narrowest spacing (not by much), but from playing it I would have guessed it was the widest! From looking at the King V I would have guessed it's neck width at the 24th fret would have been the widest. It's NOT! They're the same. I was wrong all around :-) I forgot to mention they all have the same strings - EB Super Slinkys . I quess it's just all about perception.

Original Floyd bridges (maybe JT590's also?) have wide spacing, hence the need for F-spaced (or trem spaced) pickups.

Fixed bridges can be spaced any where the luthier determines (typically by the width of the neck) since he can notch tha saddles pretty much anywhere (assuming he is not using pre-notched saddles).

Nice reply memphisKat, I'll have to measure mine as well. Funny my KV2 seems to have the widest spacing and also has a floyd. Thanks

One reason why you've got to love Kahlers. Individual string spacing and height is entirely adjustable...

Wait, there's a reason to love Kahlers?

I think most people just need to learn how to adjust/setup them properly. I didn't like 'em at first either. In fact most of my Kahlers came badly adjusted. But now that I know how to get 'em setup just right, I'm starting to prefer them over Floyds.

                        That is pretty cool.
