  • Charvel Dimarzio bodies

I have a mutt with a Charvel-style Dimarzio body. Any body know about the relations of Dimarzio with Charvel. Or about the bodies?

Some early Dimarzio bodies were made by Charvel Manufacturing, later ones were imports from Japan iirc!!

Not sure of the details but afaik they were either stamped or branded "Dimarzio"!!Kev(83SanDimas)will have better info!!

    Pics will help identify yours!!

I had a DiMarzio star body that was swamp ash.Called Michael Charvel and he said the most common wood used was what ever they had around at the time. The Charvel made ones that are woodburned DiMarzio in the neck pocket are USA mfg, and also came in basswood, alder, poplar.Import bodies range from plywood to Sen to alder and what ever was available.
      Really? well screw Mark Twain.

Not to rag on Michael CHarvel, but considering that Wayne was no longer around during that period, and Michael wasn´t born yet: how would he know for sure?

He did say that the Charvel made DiMarzios were made in 78-79-80.I would think that he might know a little about some thing like this listening to his dad talk about things that were done at his shop.I would think Grover would be the guy to ask tho'.

A woodburn dimarzio body can be a San Dimas Charvel or an import. Tell tale signes will let us know which. I would say that thier are 4 eras of Dimarzio bodies or manufactorers. The first is the Dimas era. 2nd is a later but similar with neer perfect control cavity and shorter bevel. 3rd and 4th have different control cavities. One having a small control cavity lip with flares by the 3 screw holes and the other having an irregular shaped lip. Neither mathch an import Charvel. Also 2 match the same era Chandlers although Chandler has told me they always made thir own bodies. and did not manufactorer for anyone else

+1 I have seen some of the odd control cavity strat bodies.I figured they were probably import. Some of the star bodies had the gibby/explorer cavity.
