Wish I had it sitting next to my ESP!
They would be both welcome in my home.

Well, like others, I have had many of both. There good and bad. I 've had a '91 Explorer custom from the custom shop in Hollywood. It was a beautifuly constructed axe. ESP has the same thing that Charvel and Jackson have with the San Dimas era guitar. Highly sought after for the "mojo" and craftmanship. Well USA custom built ESP's are the same. Not nearly as many made but great guitars. I now only have 1 ESP. Thats my '92 ish MII Deluxe. It's great and I wil never let it go, however I can't get into the all the new Japanese stuff. The designs, the LTD's its all crap. Of course this is all just one mans humble opinion.

Just a thought: The Lynch models are all maple bodies. That would TOTALLY explain the weight and "lifeless" tone.

Personally, if a guitar by any manufacturer makes me stand up and say, "Hellz yeah!" I go for it. Being a total child of the '80s, though, I get all gooey for Lynch Kamikazes ... especially the IV with the maple board and saw-tooth headstock (ecstatic moan).

Anyway, I've played a few ESPs and found them to be quite a bit like my Jackson WR-1: Very precise, like a lab instrument. Good sustain, but not a tone that jumps out of the guitar and screams (as on my '06 Charvel or '88 JEM). All of the ESPs I've tried have been bolt-ons, but they've felt and sounded more like neck-throughs to me.

Amen, bro. I adore Lynch's tone. I'd love to find a local Kamikaze IV and see if it does it for me just to complete the triumvirate of "hero" axes: The JEM, the Charvel, and the ESP.

Yeah, ESP is a stupid name anyway...

The ESP USA site is never updated! There is quite a lot of cool stuff on the ESP Japan site, hell like every one of their japanese endorsees gets 5-10 different sigs, that's so cool. I'd like an ESP star shape one day, or a Jackson KE2, or a Ibanez JEM7WH, or a PRS Singlecut Modern Eagle, or a Dean Exotic ML, or a... does the GAS ever end?

I used to think the Eclipses were nice until I found out they don't have a carved maple top - just veneer. This year they bumped the price up to almost the same as a Les Paul Standard. :P

They are not bad, but they aren't as great as a lot of people seem to think they are.

That said, ESP is currently what Jackson was in the 1980's.

Actually, only Eclipses II would have a veneer (quilted or flamed) OVER a full plain maple cap. Eclipses I have a full (but neither quilted nor flamed) maple top.

Don't all US Jackson's (but SL2MAH and Custom shop) have only a veneer on transparent colours?

I had an M1 (87) 1 hum and it was a beast, maple body ebony board. It was a great playing and sounding guitar, veryC/J like I cant knock it. I had a Korean mfg MV300 and it was great as well, craftsmanship was top notch.
I prefer C/J by far.Maple = lifeless tone are you drinking your bathwater? My 87 Jackson super strat(maple )is so alive and full of huge tone its scary(note spelling)I've had tons of USA Jacksons and Charvels and this one is a BAD MOFO.
                        Really? well screw Mark Twain.

                          Hy all,

I have got this one :

(sorry for bad pics i will take better this week end)

I explain why i take this ESP.

First of all, you dont have this ESP Horizon FR2 in USA. It's only for Europe.

This ESP have the same specs than SL2H with carved and quilted maple top and binding on body.

In europe, it cost new : 2200$

In shop in france, SL2H cost : 3799$

                          A new SL2H buy in a USA shop cost (with shipping and Taxes) : 2400$ - 2500$

So i take an ESP. I prefer carved and quilted top.

Its a great guitar and sound great. Dont have a typical sound but playability and finish are great.

Jackson have HIS sound. ESP product guitar for all player and have a more neutral sound.
                          Jackson & Charvel abuser ...

I've never had the opportunity to play an ESP. I really have no desire to try one. They don't have any models that really do it for me. The Jeff Hanneman sigs were always nice though. The only one I've ever really lusted after, was the black/red/silver crackle KK signature V. I STILL want one.

Before any more ESP fanboyz wanna post their poop here, how about starting a thread over in the correct forum?

Ain't this a Jackson discussion? We're in "General Jackson / Charvel talk" and just comparing ESP and Jackson. I believe there are many connections in style. And just to be a little naughty with ESP, some Jackson's fanatics may want to say ESP firtst ripped off their favourite guitar company!

Or are you just afraid of a little chat? Come on!

BTW, zebutcher poste ta gratte sur AF dans le topic "Les ESP Japon (et pas US)" et pond nous un petit avis! Translation on demand!
