    OEM Charvel and Jackson hardcases... variations...

    Okay, this is a weird post... I recently got a guitar with a Grey JACKSON Chainsaw Case with a guitar. Since in 87-89 there were no import Jacksons, this case has to be for USA guitars... any thoughts? Am I forgetting anything? Does anyone really care?

    These are the known (to me) hardcases for Jacksons and Charvels (USA and IMPORTS)

      I would also like to add that with cases and used guitars, anything is possible. What I mean is that once a guitar is broght into a music store and sold as used, it may not leave with the original case in came in. Many music stores didn't (and many still don't) care about what case it came in. They just go out back and look for a proper brand case that is used and fits. This is often seen with Fender Jaguar and Jazzmaster cases. Up until 10 years ago, nobody cared about these guitars, so it is very common to see early 60's guitars with late 60's cases and vice versa.

          I bought a used Jackson Fusion Pro from about 1994-95 and it came with a Jackson Grey Chainsaw case, which is probably original? Jack.

            Yeah, Victoria Luggage was the original case company Fender commissioned to build the first tweed rectangular cases which became the tolex covered cases. Funny to think that the same people who built instrument cases also made a boat load of travel luggage. Click below for G&G's story.

              My '84 Rhoads case is non-badged. It looks like a Victoria or G&G made case. The hardware (center latch and hinges) is identical to my old Victoria cases, which is different than all G&G cases I have ever seen. The shaping is more like a Victoria as well. I am not sure when Victoria went out of business, but G&G did start up in the late 70's and the two co-existed for many years.

              My lining is a dark maroon. It has an old style Victoria leather badge shaped pull tab on the accessories compartment.

              I have some similar era G&G cases for a Kramer and a Guild. There are some differences. It would be cool to figure out if Jackson used both manufacturers.
