Hi all , Wouter Jaegers 30 years old and a renegade luthier and guitar freak has joined your ranks and I wanted to show my own Charvel Model 3. of course it doesn't look much like a Model 3 anymore but let me start at the beginning.
Okay, around six months ago I got my hands on the carcass of a 1990 Charvel model 3 guitar which I restored. The original neck was broken (beyond repair, I'm sad to say.) The two singlecoil pickups appear to be the original ones but came without the "Jackson" branded covers, the Double locking whammy had gone AWOL as was the bridge humbucker. I restored it by putting on a brand new Kahler trem and replacing the old neck with a Fernandes neck. For a while I had a Duncan distortion Humbucker in the bridge position (as is seen on the picture) and a Duncan quarterpound strat in tthe neck but I never was truly satisfied with that.
But when comparing it with my strat I missed the feeling of having a pickguard under my fingers when I play (believe me, thin as it is, a pickguard does make a difference in playing comfort) So I bought a pickguard in mint green without the holes for switches and pots and modified my Charvel to accept it. I put the original neck pickup back in and put the Duncan quarterpound at the bridge and I am really pleased with the result.
Now all I need to do is get my hands on a Charvel neck with droopy headstock, people keep asking me what kind of cool fernandes I'm playing, they don't believe me when I tell them it's a Charvel, but it is.
Hope you guys like my guitar.
