After my recent quoting experience, I wouldn't order now.
They need to sort out and explain better what will make the different layers of the Custom Shop pieces. Like Fender does with Custom Shop, Team Built and Master Built.

It sounds like this is where they are going (at least in the prices I got) but they need to do a much better job of marketing it.

And I can't be the only one who thinks that system is totally stupid.

Anything is an improvement over a Jackson custom. Even dealing with a really good dealer, it takes so long to get a quote and then they come back totally buggered up and then it just takes so long to go back and forth and actually get it specced out 100% to what you originally asked for, I just gave up on the frustration of getting a CS jackson and am just going to go with some guitar from a small internet luthier now.

I guess seeing how this thread has been resurected it can only mean one thing. I have been waiting for months to order my CS Charvel and now I'm being told I can't! Again? WTF is their problem now?

So, like I feared when Fender bought Jackson, the comparison of what you get for the amount you spent with Jackson was probably compared to Fender custom shop production, and this would be the direct outcome. I'm actually surprised it took this long for them to figure out an $8000 Custom Stratocaster is 10x easier to make than a $3500 Custom Jackson.

Uh... Doesn't Jackson use CNC machines? Unless you are giving them a completely different body type then they have ever done before then a custom Jackson or Custom fender are exactly the same to build. Every PU combination, every control style, it's all been programed in and ever model by now. In fact the major of "Custom" guitars I see are 95% paint job and maybe a couple things here and there.

Even the fret pressed are automated.

I agree with your idea on the price, but not for the reason of one thing being easier then the other.
In the future though I need to remember to not buy guitars while on Nyquil

With a Strat, they grab a neck and a body from the preshaped pile...

With Jackson, the necks are preshaped, but the bodies on a neck-thru aren't and need to be shaped after the wings are glued to the mostly finished necks. And this isn't automated. If you know ANYTHING about Jacksons, you would know that much... Jacksons are mostly hand built... STILL.

If you can't understand all that, then I give up.

While I would not be surprised to find out that your assessment is true, it completely ignores elementary economics (i.e. supply v. demand and price being set by what the market will bear). If fender is ignoring reality, they are going to tank JMIC faster than I originally thought.

Well, with wait times of up to 3-6 months for an order for any specific USA Select make and color option, and 12-20 months for a Custom Shop, you really think demand is that low?

Yeah, I doubt that demand is down at all. With demand as high as it seems it would make sense to raise prices. I don't like the price increase either and it has probably put me off from ordering another custom for a while. Maybe we should all feel lucky for the prices we were getting?
