Thanks for the welcome, one and all!

Now, Stuka, I'd dearly love to show you pics of the V, but alas, it was "the one that got away"!

        The story goes thus:
Back in 1989, or maybe 1990, staying with friends in LA for the Summer (back when I had more hair on my head than my erm, chin, and when all I worried about was how cold the next drink was, and which mud-wrestling club was on the cards. Ah, happy days!!)
I answered an ad in the Recycler, and found myself at a very nice geezer's apartment trying out a superb Dinky which he had had made some years previously. I saw it, I wanted it, I told him it was sold! However, I had a little play with it, chatting with the geezer and his gorgeous wife, when he said "I have got another if you are interested......"

Interested? Moi? Does the Pope poo in the woods? Gimme gimme gimme!!!
So, out comes a case, which I swear opened like that briefcase in Pulp Fiction - kinda glowed from inside! Sitting there was a glorious fire-engine red King V, which the chap explained belonged to his mate but who had some serious drug problems, and it was sadly obvious the guy was never going to conquer them. Nagged by his missus, it was time to let the guitar go, though he wasn't advertising it. How much??????
$1000! Ding Dong! (About £750 at the time) I WANT IT!
Now, being young and skint, a long way from home, I called the cavalry (yep, Mater and Pater) and asked them to get the cash from my account and get it to me.

Shouldn't be a problem, I had just over a week to close the deal.......Famous Last Words!

Apparently if my parents had wanted to put crisp dollar bills into an envelope, take it to the post office, and post it to any country in the world via Registered Post, it would be GUARANTEED to get there intact, and insured against theft. Angola? No problem! Iran? No sweat! USA? Ah, problem. Any country in the world EXCEPT USA or Australia! Amazing but true! Back then, before the days of the internet, where info is at your fingertips, there seemed to be no way of getting the cash, apart from me opening a bank account in the USA and transferring the cash. Which would take 2 weeks!

So, the upshot of it is folks, the V didn't become mine. And it has haunted me ever since! And I mean haunted!! Of course now, I would have instructed one of my mates to get on a plane, cash in his pocket, and get out there pronto. At the worst, I would have flown home, grabbed the loot, and flown back! (Of course, these days I have things like Credit cards to get cash advances, but back then I was a mere snip of a lad at 17, all naiive!)

Anyway, if that geezer is reading this, and still has that guitar under his bed, I HAVE THE CASH NOW!!!! LOL

BTW, I still have the Dinky, it is reeeeeeeeeeally nice, so it wasn't a total disaster!!! Now, lemme find some pics......
So I woke up,rolled over and who was lying next to me? Only Bonnie Langford!

        I nearly broke her back

I have no idea who the bloke's mate was, my mind was boiling with thinking how to get the cash, and nothing else!! I do recall the bloke who was selling telling me that the V and the Dinky that I bought were made at the same time, they were the same colour, it was some sort of "buddy" thing going on!
