  • EVH Charvel w/Sustainiac Pics!

Here's a little project me and my guitar tech Alan has been working on for the last 2 weeks, and it was WELL worth it! I know some of you guy's will think I,m crazy for putting a Sustainiac in an EVH, but I do have a R/W/B one and didn't want 2 of the same guitar. Very LITTLE routing was done as the circuit board and 5 way switch fit into the cavity that was already there, only a little bit for the humbucker itself and the battery compartment in the back. The addition of a neck humbucker (works as a regular neck pup when not activated) in this guitar is just fantastic. I highly recommend you call Alan Hoover at Maniac Music and buy one of these bad-boys..............

Nice job. I really dig the pop out battery holder. Best invention for guitar modding to me.

Nice job. I installed one in a Les Paul awhile ago. It was my first time routing on a finished guitar. The battery boxes are neat.

For the length of time a battery will last, I still can't see the sense in a battery box, but whatever floats yer boat.

And I bought a Sustainiac from Alan at Summer NAMM 04. Great guy to deal with.

I got the single coil version but now I have nothing to put it in

            Maybe a Warrior Pro.......

Newc, It was recommended that I put the battery under the pickguard. On this EVH (as with most Strats "per Alan") you have to remove the neck to get the pickguard off. I didn't want to do that just to change a battery.

And yes, Alan IS a great guy to deal with!!

I have one that has been sitting here. Alan is a good guy to deal with! I cant decide which guitar to put it in. The EVH looks great... I still think your nuts for doing it but I do understand why you did it. I would not want to have to take the neck off either. Looks right at home there / factory done. If you dont ever plan on selling it than I guess resale value doesnt mean a thing. Enjoy it!

IMO opinion a guitar is to be played not to be looked at, i would modify any guitar i owned no matter the cost if i wanted something differant.

O.kay, that 2 nuts/crazy And no I dont ever plan to sell her but thank you for understanding why I did it. Here's a thing I didn't tell you's yet, There's a Gibson BurstBucker pup in the bridge right now to change the tone of it also, but I think that's coming out for either a Dimarzio Tone Zone or a Duncan Custom/Custom................

Why would you ever have to take a strat's neck off to remove the pickguard?

I'm waitin' for the answer to that one too!
I don't know how many times I've had the p/g off of my strat but I never had to remove the neck. Maybe the new ones are like that but it still doesn't make sense.
