I always thought it came from the case too. I'm not overly fond of the smell though.

I had a pearl-white Model5 that smelled like candy. I also had one of those San Dimas re-issue Charvels that had a smell to it but I think in both instances it was the case.

Now that I think about it, my DR3 Pro and Fusion had a smell...all with cases. None of my DK-2's have it and all were shipped in the factory box except for the one I picked up at GC.
