I put more purple on Seans (find it in the archives) he tells me most of them are a graphic these days!? really, if so that's terrible?

Nice pictures guys, it isn't the easiest to photograph due to the pearlescent paint truly a beautiful paint...best looked at in natural light and best looked at in the flesh.

Is this change to the import colors a new thing? My SLSMG's eerie dess finish is pretty damn dark, and has a lot of dark purple in it, and the guitar is an '05.

Having actually painted Eerie Dess on my motorcycle, it can easily get dark if you're not careful. The mixing of the top color and how many coats are sprayed can cause big variations from guitar to guitar. Especially if everything is mixed and shot manually. I sprayed emerald green over the ED on my bike and shot all the body parts at the same time so there wouldn't be a variation in mixes from one to the other. I say "I", but I got in the way alot while an accomplished painter friend shot them. I could easily imagine huge differences among guitars if there are multiple people doing the paint.

Some day, people will view EDS with the same reaction that we have today of the 80s crackle finishes.

That's maybe what's going on. Most of the older USA models I've seen have been darker. The imports seem to be lighter for the most part, with the purple being light to almost pink on some, but I guess there's some that are a little darker, too.

When you say that it's not an easy finish to photograph, do you mean to say that it's hard to take a photo that shows how bright the finish actually is? If that's the case, then I should be OK.

Yah, it's hard to get a picture that looks exactly like the guitar looks in person with that finish...

                      Ebonized fretboard? Looks killer!

And exactly what is that view? I love both. Killer finishes though dated.

                          The one I had.

And a killer crackle just because.

Hmm... As I got sick of the red firecrackle finish on my 1988 dinky about a year after I bought it, I may just play it safe and go with trans blue...

Nope, just as it came when I first got it, save for some lemon oil. I couldn't be happier with that guitar - at least once I put the Schaller in.
