  • Newbie Questions

Good mornin all, This is my first post. A little background: I always wanted a Jackson, it probably started back in the 80s when i saw RR shreding it up with his white V. I day dreamed about being that rockstar, for years. The closest i got to stardome was the parachute pants and cheesy clothing back in the 80s. I stoped playing guitar in the 90s and took up flying. I recently bought a mooney and have enjoyed flying myself and the wife to be around the country. But something is missing, i miss playing and want to get back into it just for pleasure.
I was surfing ebay the last few weeks and ended up buying my first Charvel. I have a few questions for the group (I know nothing).
First question: is this real or a fake?
2nd question: the plate on the head is missing as well as the middle lock, can these be replaced, and if so where do I get them.
3rd question: Does anyone know what kind of charvel this is? model?
the plate on the back of the neck says: charvel 292800
4th question: I took it all apart already and have it being custom painted as we speak, if i paint the head, can i get a replacement charvel sticker to place beneath the clear coat? and where?
5th question: (I warned you i knew nothing) i paid 200 for this, is it worth it?

Now that I have been reading this board, I have found a few Vs on ebay for alot more money, but i think one is in my future.
    Thank you for your time.

Model 3, made in Japan between '86-88

there are sellers on ebay that can help you out. Or you might find a company locally that can reproduce the logo for you. I know guys have resprayed MIJ Charvels here and managed to relogo them, one of them might happen by with more info.

5th question: (I warned you i knew nothing) i paid 200 for this, is it worth it?
sounds like a deal to me!

    Welcome to the JCF.
    Hail yesterday

Thank you VitaminG. I emailed fretsonthenet for an order. After some searching i found this site for decals: http://www.best-decals.com/index.php...dex&cPath=2_19

I ordered the charvel decal, but it says made in the usa on it, and mine says "by Jackson/Charvel". Good enough for now.
      Thanks for your help.

First of all Welcome!!!! She looks like a nice Axe . To narrow the years down on you guitar since it has a Jt6 bridge it was made in '87 or '88. Charvels came with Kahlers in '86 . You can always cut off the "Made in U.S.A." on your decal so as to confuse some future owner even more with the Ft. Worth plate on it. Like stated above, your guitar was made in Japan.

Thanks for the welcome. Of course i have pics of the mooney
The paint scheme for the Charvel is going to be simillar to this photo:

white background with the checkerboard layout. I have it all sanded down and covered all the dings. Will probably start painting tomorrow. Ill keep ya informed with its progress if you like.

                As for the mooney:

Heres another dumb question for you all....will this neck fit my charvel?

and if it did, do you all see anything wrong with putting that neck on my model?

It will fit fine, but it does not have a locking nut. You would have to install one.

Neither does the one he already has... He could simply remove the kahler style behind the nut lock and put it on the other one

Well I spent the day preping and painting the Charvel. Decided to go with a pearl white as the base and then 3 clear coats. As soon as it dries I am going to wet sand it again, and start masking for the graphics. hopefully i can get that painted tomorrow. SO far it looks nice. Hard to see the real depth of the paint in these photos.

Wouldn't you want the graphics on before the clear?

You could. But i wanted the added protection of a clear coat between the different paints. I just finished wetsanding the clearcoat and it is ready to be painted again. after i finish the graphics i will shoot another clear. I am having second thoughts on the checkerboard layout now. I am open for suggestions if anyone has some ideas for a paint scheme.
