  • Potentially stupid question about fret markers...

What does MOTO stand for? I know that MOP is "mother of pearl" and I've heard fake MOP fret markers referred to as "mother of toilet seat." But, for the life of me, I can't figure out what MOTO is supposed to stand for.

Yeah, I know -- It's probably something simple and obvious. But, I just can't figure this one out...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

"They put Hitler in the driver's seat and looked the other way
"They got poison in the water and the whole world's in a trance
"But, just because we're hypnotized, that don't mean we can't dance!"

Really? On the Jackson Web site, in the specs section for the DK2 Dinky, it actually says "Fret markers: MOTO." Are you telling me that Jackson is listing "mother of toilet seat" on its Web site as a feature of the guitar?!?

Shouldn't "mother of toilet seat" be MOTS? I'm thinking MOTO must actually stand for something else...

But, I could be wrong! (It wouldn't be the first time!)

It should be MOTS. Who the hell invented the "MOTO" abbreviation anyway? This isn't the first time this subject pops up here. Jeez

EDIT: okay, read the old threads... again

Fact is, I thought this would be one of those questions where I was missing something so obvious that no one else had likely posted on the topic.

I was wrong and my my fifth grade teacher was right. She said:

"If you have a question, always ask it, no matter how stupid you may think it is. Because, if you have the question, then probably others do as well, buy they are too shy to ask."

Next time, I'll do a search first. That said, thanks for the responses! It truly does seem that Jackson and Fender a using toilet seats in their advertising.

            Yuck!

Its interesting to note Fender one time did a whole Stratocaster in MOTO (in 80's I think). It was, simply put, ugly enough to make little kids cry.

That goes for many of the late 70s early 80s Strats. Remember the "bowling ball" finish Strats?
