  • Silver sparkle King V models

Ok, here's a question. I did some digging on the forum last night to try and find out just how rare the silver sparkle King V (USA and/or Pro) models were. Can anyone give me any insight into this? I currently own a black King V Pro and love it, but have always wanted to grab up a silver sparkle model as well to complete the set.... but I've yet to see one pop up. Any idea of how many were made or how often they surface? I've been watching for a while with zero luck. Thanks for any info!

Here's my current #1 axe... I absolutely LOVE this guitar. Had it for years and they will have to bury me with it

PS - Like the "grass" in my back yard? That's genuine Las Vegas grass right there....

You mostly see the black. There was silver sparkle and I think I remember seeing a burst finish too. Good luck in the hunt.

Scott is right....there were 3 finishes for the Pro models, the silver sparkle, black, and a cherry burst with gold hardware. Since the pro's were japanese made it's really tough to actually know an estimated production total for eah finish....it's pretty much anyone's guess. You see them pop up every once in a while though if you keep your eyes peeled.

Thanks for the input guys! So what about the USA model Kings? Was that finish equally as rare?

I've only seen 5 US Silver Sparkle King Vs. 2 are with Mustaine and I used to own 3 others. Pic below. Of course there are more out there. I think there are silver KV2s around but the finish isn't the same kind.

I still have the one on the left. The guitar in the middle is the first ever logged King V and on the right is 1989 string-thru KV. To this day it's the only 80s string-thru KV I've seen.

I had one Silver Sparkle KV Pro as well. Yes I'm a Megadeth fan. LOL!

Dude that is some serious guitar porn right there! I actually came across the thread last night where you posted this same pic.. I think it was when you had the Mustaine replica built. That's a SICK looking group of guitars man! I am a big Megadeth fan as well, so you know where the need to have a silver sparkle comes from. Here's a bit of info about my Pro for ya since you're a fan...

The original Kahler bridge on the V was well worn and tarnished (as they tend to get from what I've seen). I ended up with a huge stroke of good luck and was able to snag Marty Friedman's Kahler from his #69 Kelly (last used on the Risk tour). It was in damn good shape and I got it for a song, so I was very very happy with that. Gave the guitar a little more mojo I suppose

I gotta say I love the Kahler fixed bridges, but one problem is they are tough as hell to find replacements for. I spoke to Kahler directly and they don't do black models anymore of that particular bridge. They did have one or two black bases available, but not a whole assembly. Hopefully that will change. Jackson didn't seem to have any either... so if I DO opt to have one built as you did, I guess Kahler is out of the question.

I'll keep watchin' for an old school silver sparkle, but if worse comes to worse, I'll have one built heheh. Thanks again guys!

I didn't order that Mustaine replica but I'd be really interested to know who did. Can You link the thread where You read about it?

Here is the guitar together with Mustaine's custom Y2KV.

The silver sparkle imports are relatively rare. They do command a premium when they come up... Generally in the $800-$900 range if I recall correctly.

I don't remember seeing any US silver sparkle KVs sell, so can't comment.
