If I can offer any advice in life, its don't set yourself up to get into debt. Live within your means, even if it means going without or sacrifice. Be patient as the cool stuff you want will be attainable at somepoint, which usually means when its uncool to everyone else. To be able to pay every bill at the end of the month and not have to use credit cards or take loans to get by and have your toys is true freedom. Its not easy, and it can really suck sometimes, but in the end it is really rewarding.
Credit cards AND working 2 jobs, helps me with my addiction.

Be without fear in the face of your enemies. Be brave and upright, that God may love thee. Speak the truth always, even if it leads to your death. Safeguard the helpless and do no wrong.
I have two things in my favor. I work "in the business" so I get deals on stuff most people can't. This doesn't apply to Jackson stuff really, half of those I bought online.
The other important thing in my case is I skimp on a few other things. I don't have a huge car payment and I wear regular Levi's Jeans and $20 shirts for as long as they last me. Guitars are really my only real indulgance, next to beer.
WORK & i bought some of it cheap when NO ONE wanted it. during the late 80's-90's VINTAGE was "IN" no one was buying 70's-80's Heavy Metal cheese logs.
Busted my ass in college and worked really really hard. Asked for raises and I got them.
Also got deals on all my axes. I've backdoored a guitar or 2 on ebay for very reasonable prices. And when I buy something I don't try to lowball but I do try to get a fair price.
Got 2 Boogies thru a local classifieds site for very very low prices. For $1400 I got a Single Recto head, Boogie 4x12 cab, DC5 head, and Boogie 2x12 cab. Also almost got a ESP real deal custom shop guitar for $500...seller paid $2000 for it.
Deals are out there, you gotta be super dilligent and save your money.
I'm a pretty cheap guy and I don't splurge on many things and I rarely have credit card debt. Takes forver to buy things but it's worth it.
I have had really good jobs, don't have a car payment other than gas and upkeep, Jeans and T Shirts (and Hooded Sweatshirts), am somewhat cheap, and my secret weapon, I rape the government/educational system blind with Grants and Scholarships. I get a little over 6K every 4 months from them and spend at most $700 on tuition and everything for school.
College guys or bound people, TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT!!!!! There's much money to be had.
The only smart thing I've done financially in the past couple years was to quit throwing money at the stock market and start throwing all that money into guitars..... been a much better investment
Like a lot of the guys said before, sacrifice. if you REALLY want it, you can get it. It's amazing how much money you can dump into something if you REALLY want to. When you really, really want something, it's seems easier to save for it.
but spending money is freakin' great!!!! i can't begin to think of all the money that was ripped through this last year.it was alot of fun, it was my first year collecting. i work hard but the pay can be phenominal, so why not burn it up on some pleasure!!! sure it's good to be smart with your money, fortunately i just have not learned how to
yet.

Well with me my job helps. And my last job too. I got most of my gear there. Like my 76 LP Custom for 500 bucks, and my 79 strat for 480, And my Wolfgang for 380. Among other things. although I have sold the wolfgang and the strat I got more than I paid for them which is always a bonus.
My car is paid off and I don;t have any credit cards so no debt there. And My utilites are only Electric and phone plus my rent. The rest is fun money and food and what not. I can live on taco bell for weeks and only spend 5 bucks or less a meal and get filled up especailly if theres something I just gotta have.
