I'm proposing Community Involvement to build it from the ground up. So, in the meantime, I'd like for the JCF community to fill this thread with any factual info (links to catalog scans from 1970s-present, specs for whatever models, etc).
I should state I'm not claiming to be the curator or the team leader on this. It's not my idea, it's not my project, but I strongly suggest that the information gathering be done by as many people as possible, then a smaller group take on the task of sorting the info, etc etc etc.
I'd also like to strongly suggest that no replies other than those containing pertinent factual info appear here. If you think the thread is good, bad, or whatever, please do not clutter up this thread with general discussion.
Lastly, I'd say we define "Import" as those models made outside the USA for sale within the North American and European markets. GroverJackson and JacksonStars model info would be nice, and should be included, but IMO those should be in their own section, with the main section, again, focusing on the larger pile - the Charvel Model models and Jackson Japanese/Indian/etc-made models that were marketed/sold in North America/Europe.
First we'll need to find a list of all models ever made for any length of time - whether it was a 10 piece Dealer Special or the Guitar Center runs or the various experiments from the AMIC years, both Jackson and Charvel. If it was given a model name/number by J/C and/or AMIC or JCMI, it's relevant.
I'd say to avoid "common" Custom Shop models (like the 80-89 models that basically became the USA production models in 1990), or reserve them for their own special section. Those were so individual that it would be impossible to document them all and will delay getting the other info together.
If it's Custom Shop one-offs like the Jizzmaster or Brooks' one-off PCs, I'd say include them if Brooks is willing to share pics and specs. We don't need the details of how who got what, just the build specs. Serials are entirely optional for anything.
The original intent of the MOAIP, if I recall correctly, was to document the various Charvel Model models as well as the even more varied Jackson import models. This included all specs from the catalogs/flyers.
I suggest we start there, since it's the largest pile to sort through, and the hardest one.
So, let's begin:
I know Charvel had the following models, but not all the specifics nor all the variations of each model:
Imports
Model Series
Model 1
Variations
Model 2
Variations
Model 3
Variations
Model 4
Variations
Model 5
Variations
Model 6
Variations
Model 7
Variations
Model 8
Variations
Variations examples are Model 5A, 4M, etc etc. I'd suggest noting when the Model 6 became the 650XL, and the technical differences (i.e. logo shape, etc).
I know Jackson has made these models:
Soloist USA
Rhoads USA
Fusion USA
Dinky USA
KV-1
KV-2
KV-3
KV-4
RR-1
Variations
KE-1
Variations
SL-1
Variations
SL-2H
Variations
WR-1
KE-3
WRXT
WRMG
JS30WR
JS30RR
JS30KE
JS30KV
JS10
JS20
DX10D
KVX10D
RX10D
RR-2
RR-3
Variations
KE-3
Variations
DXMG
DKMG
USA Roswell
Roswell Pro
Warrior Pro
Soloist Pro
KV-Pro
Kelly Pro
Dinky Pro
Fusion Pro
That's all I got off the top of my head, I know there's tons more, as well as tons of variations (RR-1T, RR-3R, KV2T, etc etc).
