It's some of the graphics that make them look dated. The designs are classic.

Interesting......I wandered out to GC again today and ran into one of their sales persons that knew me for several years ago that I had bought a Charvel from.He asked what did you bring with you today? I whipped out my model 2 strathead mutt(black and yellow bullseye) and the response was suprising both old and young thought it was very cool not dated at all.One black finger nailed kid said I bet it don't play good.Well the 800 Marshall 1/2 stack got a work out and he shut his ass up.

Whats odd is the music that was created with said jacksons and Charvels is considered classic rock in some aspects. butyet the very guitars that music was played on are called "dated".. Hmm i see the cinics as jealous that they didnt get one ot 6 when they were cheaper back then. And of course eveybody has to make fun of J/C because of the hair metal days. But they dont remember the guitar gods that played them back then. Like Jeff Beck for example. The Les Paul and Strat started in a differant style of music and a differant era. Then they crossed over into other styles of music over time. All we need is for Jackson charvel to be played in many more styles of music in th epublic eye. ( ie MTV) to get them considered to be classics.
somebody call Travis Tritt and get him a Jackson.. lol

J/C guitars were for the most part a fad that transitioned to a cult following. Any of the guys that were around before gave J/C guitars a shot for a while and then went back to classic/traditioinal guitars. The Jeff Beck example points this out nicely. Gary Moore, Aerosmith, etc. did the same. The top 40 players were playing them. At the end of the fad the only folks that stuck with them at all were the metal players. And now barely any of them use J/C guitars.
I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.

Modern classic gets my vote. The Soloist & RR these will continue to go up in price as the years go by. Some say they're dated but I beleive they will become as desirable as some Old Gibson or Strat's because they play and sound that good. Low ser.# S.D. will top the list of most wanted as long as they're unmodded or refinished (I didn't say unplayed). I don't think pickups will have to be original because all the S.D. guitars were custom orders but finish and hardware will need to be original.

I think the whole concept of dating things dates yourself! And I don't mean just because you think something looks like its from the 80s mean you grew up in the 80s...I mean we're getting close to the point where anything goes as far as style and fashion are concerned. the future is not a bunch of dudes in silver jumpsuits playing chrome Satriani guitars...it's going to be more like one dude on stage dressed like andre agassi at wimbledon playing a paisley telecaster, another dude dressed like Benjamin Franklin playing a banjo, an Aladdin Sane lookalike playing the Keytar and a dude on drums with a flannel shirt and those 80's louvered sunglasses. And I will pay good money to see it!

That said, all rainbow crackle finishes should be destroyed and when time traveling technology becomes available, the person who dreamed it up should be eliminated.

Of course I still believe that some guitars are more well-suited for a specific application than others, but that's more of a music thing than a style thing.

I think the dinky body, pointed headstock(not reverse), and sharkfins go very well together and would stand the test of time, but the more wild finishes and graphic can seem dated.

I think that original SD s-head charvels, particularly those with wood finishes, traditional solid colors and some of the more accpeted graphics (HRF, bulls) are now finally beginning to get some real recognition as classic guitars.

As far as the pointys as well as the "Jackson" badged guitars go, I think we are now kinda on the fence and what fender does with the brand may dictate how things go.

If fender pushes these guitars and gets them in the hands of visible players (like ESPee has done), then the market for the old ones will take off. If not, then I think that brand will flounder as it has as just another 80s fade. In light of the 80s interest that is rising, fender should strike while the iron is hot, otherwise they will loose the moment (which of course assumes they really care, which I am convinced they really do not based on how they have handled the brand to date from a QC and marketing standpoint - fender sells alot of other guitars after all).

I have a yellow crackle, but that 3 color style is just way too much for me.

I was playing 15 years before Charvels and Jacksons came about. I wanted one in the 80's, but was too used to my Les Pauls and thought the Jackson's were too expensive and the Charvels with the bolt on neck to be outragously expensive. In 2004 I wanted something new and futuristic and all that stuff. I finally went for my first Jackson, an SL1. Of course after I played it, I asked myself. Why did I not get a Jackson or Charvel back when they came out years ago. I have missed out on many years. My brain is dated It's where your head is and hopefully not up someones butt:ROTF:
