I don't think a neck is automatically good if it's thick/thin. The neck is, IMHO, the single most important thing in a guitar, and whether it suits my personal tastes is a combination of a lot of things. Profile, radius, finish, et cetera.
The only Jackson made necks I've got are from 85/86 and their not thin although back then everything was custom made to order. All my J/C neck seem really close to each other from 85-89( all are neck thru guitars). I've played many other neck that weren't as comfortale but you can get use to anything given enough time.
I love the thin neck on my archtop. On the other hand, i've played thin necks on the imports, and they really hurt my hand. Same problem with some of the Ibanez and even the GMP pawnshops. Small profile, radius, my hand just starts aching. I'm not a neck snob, I like the neck on my LP R7, the PC1s, the Soloists, but I can't go any thinner than that.
ibanez necks are thinner. but the thing that bothers me the most on ibanez necks is the profile.. not even one neck made in the last couple of years, suited my hand (well, apart of the PGM neck, that one is nice)
You can't play no muthfuggin' arpeggios on a tuba...
