  • Buying Jackson Stars from Japan...

Hey guys, my friend is currently saving up for a Jackson Stars Kelly Bass and the site he's planning on buying from is a dealer in Japan. I was wondering if any of you guys have had any experience dealing with this site.

It'd be great if you guys could help with this so I can make sure that my friend doesn't throw his money away (which he rarley comes across).

They are great guitars man, Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't Jackson Stars made by the same plant that made the famous Pro series from 1990-1995?

I believe the prices are USD. I emailed on a ASL1 just today to see if they have one in stock. http://guitarjapan.com/jackson/spec/asl-j1e.html

If anyone orders one, post how the transaction went and maybe some pics too. That'd be great help. My friend wants a kelly bass quite badly as they are not sold in the US. The guitarist in my band was quite pissed off when he found out that he could buy a 24 fret jackson stars rhoads for less than the price he paid for his RR1, too bad I didn't find out sooner because I make many of the suggestions and decisions on guitars and tech for them.

I bought a semicustom Jackson Stars Rhoads last year. Got it from Ishibashi... www.ishibashi-music.com

Transaction went smooth, they take bank transfer and also credit cards.

Pics are in the import section, you may want to do a search for it.

I've got an older NASL-160 in Cherry Sunburst and a more recent NASL-J2E in black and love them both.

The 160 (flametops) became the J1 model when they replaced the rosewood board with ebony (I'd rather have rosewood), and the J2 model is the solid-color (no flametops) and rosewood board line. The J2E has EMGs, whereas the J2 has Duncans.

AFAIK, each model (RR, KE, SL, etc) has a J1/J1E and J2/J2E option, as well as Schaller Floyds, Kahlers, or T.O.M.s

I bought both of mine through people in Japan I had met online, and they bought them from the dealers after I sent them the money (the 160 was on clearance to make way for the new model during the J1/J2 changeover), so I can't comment on ordering directly from the dealers.

I do know that none of them come with a hard case - gig bags only. The JacksonStars hard cases are not like the SKB-type cases we get here - they're a bit like the older G&G-type cases the early Pros came with - squared ends, wood covered in tolex, etc, and the insides are not as form-fitted, but they're padded a bit better than the old G&G-style import cases were. Not much, but a bit.

Shipping from Japan will usually run about $120 via EMS (USPS/DHL), and takes about 5 days at the most.

I did not receive any sort of notification that import taxes were due on them, but then I don't know if that's because I received mine from individuals instead of companies. I certainly did not mosey on down to the taxman and ask about it, either

                            J2s have striped ebony .
Also, J1 have MOP logo and J2 have normal logo.

My Jackson Stars RR-J2SP has jet black ebony though. And all the other J2SPs that I've seen at Yahoo auctions and other sites had jet black ebony too. But it doesn't have a MOP logo. So it's somewhere between J1 and J2 .

I bought it from a person that I had met online too.

Interesting. The site says rosewood, though I thought it did say striped ebony at first just after the changeover
